I miss the Airbus with USB charging, quiet plane, roomy, comfortable seats and non-stop service. Not bad food, too. All the drinks and snacks you want. Just ask in pidgin inglish and they give you more. Lol

Any recommendations from other travelers? Flying HNL To MNL.

I used PAL, and the flight was fine. Also PAL also has first time one way immigrant fare. But PAL has a history of being on PI time or plane always late. It is the only direct flight na. Continental was good too, with only one stop in Guam. United still has this route, so that is good too. Not to sure about discounted one way fares, though. JAL and Korean Air have good reputation, but fly to their respective countries first.

United has two routes from Guam to Manila. One is the direct flight, and the other makes one stop in Palau then onward to Manila. The Houston/Honolulu flight lands and passengers disembark the 777 then get on all the connecting flights (usually 737s).

I booked tix for my fiancee and I through Cheapo Air (great prices!) and we flew MNL to Taipei on China Air, TPE to HNL on Hawaiian, and then to OGG (Maui), also on Hawn. I got our miles on Hawaiian and was able to request seats for us at the windows for each segment of the trip. Only bummer was China Air only gave us one pass for the lounge so we didn't get to have our free beers and buffet on Hawaiian's use of the China Air privilege area. Only problem is if you need to change the dates it will be cost prohibitive!

I'm a gold member with Hawaiian. Does that mean the lounge will be available to us? The buffet sounds like a good interim meal

Yeah, me, too, but China Air would only honor us with one pass so we skipped it. On Hawaiian's own lounges we would normally be entitled to one plus a guest, but not on China's "partnership" with Hawn.

Interestingly, when I flew from HNL to ICE (on my trip to meet up with my fiancee, I had a layover in Incheon) the Hawaiian lounge is in the arrival area. When I went to my connecting flight in the departure area I couldn't get to the lounge! Once again I was denied free beer and a buffet! What's the use of the gold membership--heh heh! The lounge in Kahului, Maui is a joke--only coffee and no wifi, and the one in Honolulu, Oahu only has coffee/juice and wifi. Maybe I need a premium membership with a grown-up airline--LOL!

I just did the HNL-TPE-MNL routing myself when I went down to pickup my sweetie. Hwn to/from TPE and China Air to/from MNL. The Hawaiian flights were pretty empty, China Air's seat seemed really narrow for some reason. Bags got checked all the way thru, but needed to get boarding passes and the China Air seat assignment in Taipei at the transient desk. I managed to get mileage upgrades for our trip back, the China Air Business class lounge was a little bit away from the gates, but was real nice! large, clean, and pretty good selection of food and drinks, plus wifi. Only strange thing happened at the departure gate on the way back to Hawaii, all the transient passengers were pulled aside for a secondary pat down, at the gate, just before boarding. I would think it would be better to do this as you enter the gate holding area, like they did it at Manila.

You flew to MNL to bring your sweetie back to da islands? We're you worried about potential problems and decided to escort her back?

Yup, went up for both the interview and to bring her back. Did I have to? Probably not, but kind of wanted to make things easier for her. Plus we had the extra luggage space if we needed it and she never really flew internationally by herself before. If I were to bring her by herself, I'd probably have used Phil Air so there would be no stops.

I also went for the Interview and to bring her over, but she had to stay back 2 weeks to complete paperwork for the Tricycle I bought. So she's coming by herself this Saturday on PAL. I'll be on the phone with her as she navigates NAIA, as she's never flown by herself before.

When I joked with her that I was booking her flight on those other airlines with layovers she said, "Mahal naman...".
