What are your takes on name change or not following a divorce? I got married in 2010, we had a daughter in 2011 with her dad's family name, all my GC are under his family name as I took his last name when we married.

Divorce was filled by him September 2013, a few months after lifting restrictions.... and it asks everywhere whether I will keep or revert to Maiden name. I am not inclined to keep it but then my daughter will have a different last name than me... would that be an issue eventually? I am her cutodial parent and plan to remain...

your thoughts?

I am planning to file for Citizenship so I need to make up my mind about what to file under....

thanks in advance....

It's a personal decision. Lots of parents have different last names than their children, so I don't think it will be a legal issue ever. It's up to you and whether you personally want to maintain the same last name as your child or not.

No impact on my Green Card since it is with my married name?? and valid for 10 years...

You will need to file an I-90 and pay the required fee of $450 (that includes biometrics)

Honestly it's up to you. If you re-marry later would you take your new husbands surname? If so it would be different to your daughter. What if you don't and have kids with that man, it would be different to those kids.

Ultimately it's up to you but my colleague didn't and has the same last name as her 4 kids. Her ex-husband has since remarried and just the other day she was called "Mrs" which really ticked her off. I would keep my married name upon divorce and cross the "do I change it if I re-marry?" bridge if it happens.
