I am going to apply for the permit for work by completeing the EAD form and it asks for my Family name yet I am not getting married until later this month so should i still put my family name as it is now or wait to fill out the form when my last name changes after im married?

I'm keen to start work as soon as possible and I also wondered how long it usually takes to be approved.

Thankyou for any help/advice you can offer.:)

From what I've read, it sounds like EAD takes 2-3 months to get approved.

My opinion would be to wait since your wedding is in 3.5 weeks. That way you can file in your married last name (even if you haven't been able to legally change it yet), and it will save you the $380 filing fee. If you file EAD/AP with your AOS application, the EAD/AP fee is waived. Also, if you apply for EAD now, you will have to file an additional form with your AOS to extend your EAD (since as a K1 EAD applicant, your EAD will expire after 90 days when your K1 expires).

Good luck!

Advice: Don't apply for EAD now. By the time you get it, you may only have days left where it is valid. Want to work only a week and then have to quit? Not worth the fee. Wait for the free one- year card that comes when you apply with your AOS.

Total waste of money $$$ and time applying for the EAD as it will expire when the I-94 expires (and odds are the EAD card won't arrive until after that date) . File with AOS and the EAD & AP are free.

But if you want to burn the $$$ use your legal name at the time of filing.
