Ok - I think I may be nuts, but you can read these forms so many different ways.

My income is enough to prove I can support my fiance. So can I just use the letter from my employer as my proof or do I still need a letter from bank/bank statements, and/or copies of my tax returns (also, if I have copies of my returns, do I need to request something more, or can I just make copies of those?)

I know this question was answered a while ago, but for some reason it isn't coming up when I search...

Thanks in advance everyone for being so helpful!

Yes you can just use the employer letter. However, that is the minimum and some consulates want more. It doesn't take that much more effort to gather other evidence. I would try to provide as much proof as possible. There is no point in risking a denial at the consulate and have to obtain the evidence anyways. Better to have them beforehand. Plus you will need them for AOS later on.

Personally I think it's better to have too much than not enough. I would have as much proof as possible. Like stated above, you'll need it for AOS later on anyway.

Hi there, I am was in the same boat as you. Boston, Canada.

I went through Montreal.

They wanted the last years tax returns, the bank letter, and the employment letter.

We gave copies of my USC fiances tax return and that was enough. His Schedule C and 1040 I think they are called.

The bank letter was easy enough to get and his bank notarized his I134 so it was full circle. This will also help you, the Canadian, when you want to open a bank account and get a credit card. The bank will already be aware of the situation and perhaps this will help you in building a rapport with your bank. Having a bank on your side from the get go is advantageous.

That's my 2 cents. Good luck with it, I know you will be fine!

hehehehe... canucker....

I've got to change our avatar pic - everyone always thinks I'm Dave since he's so big in the picture, I'm sure the way my name is set up doesn't help.

<laugh> I'm the USC... but thanks for all the help... hopefully one day I'll also call Canada my home in a few years from now. :-)

I'll be sure to get all three pieces of proof!

Definitely better to get as much info as possible, you'd hate to get there and them want more and you don't have it.

Are transcripts ok? I have my last 3 years but they are on transcripts....

Transcripts are great. You will only need last years tax transcript (look at instructions on I-134 form)
