It is Obama's fault only insofar as he thought it would be okay for him to get elected and re-elected. It is his being in the White House that has brought out the radicals, the fundamentalists, the extremes in the Republican party. For what we're witnessing here is not some stand-off between Democrats and Republicans or some stand-off between Congress and the President. No, what we're witnessing is a fight that takes place inside the Republican party. The President and the Senate Democrats have absolutely no leverage over the outcome of that fight. None.

But everything negative is his fault.

I'm really sick of nothing getting done and idiotic votes on ACA repeal being taken over and over. These politicians are simply obstructionist, nothing more.

The last time we have a government shut down we faced the same scenario: capricious republicans and their contempt for the American people.

Obama ran on the affordable care act. He was elected on that platform. Obama ran for a 2nd term on the affordable care act. He was re-elected. You would think the GnOP and the TB's would have caught on that, and yet, they have done absolutely nothing other than vote on the repeal of the ACA since they were elected.

Good comment... I don't like current health care act as it is constructed but the people voted for those that said they would do it. The republicans at this point are just causing damage.

I remember last time we had the shutdown (actually it was an impending threat of a shutdown). One of the consequences was the downgrade of the US credit rating. There was also the threat it could happen again if the government was scene as not having the ability to address the problems. Another downgrade would be long term painful for everyone.

It seems really stupid with the economy the state it is in to be toying with pushing over that first domino.
