Question,

My parents are joint sponsors. My father is the main joint sponsor and his wife (my stepmom is the household member). They have two separate salaries but they file joint taxes. So on both the I-864 and I-864A, do they use their total income that's on their tax returns 1040 or their individual income that's on the W-2s. I am pretty sure that they are both to use the same total incomes from their 1040, even if it includes the joint income. Am I right?

Yes, that's correct. On the question asking for income from tax returns/transcripts, they'd put their combined income. On the question about annual individual income though, they'd put their own income.

If they're submitting tax transcripts, make sure they include their W2s to show their own income.

I am super excited! Just called NVC and they have received my case today in the mail! They said it will take 10-20 days to put it into the system! What are your experiences with how long this should take before they can give me my case number???

WOOOHOOOO! Just so happy that something has moved! AMEN!

Hi All/Saylin,

Case snapshot

F2A category / NOA1 on 09/05/2013 / NOA2 on 10/01/2013

Couple of questions

Currently waiting on NVC to receive file. and also filed for Naturalization.

Looking at the time frame I'm expecting to be naturalized at some point while my case is pending with NVC/Consulate. I know i can "upgrade" my application/petition by calling/emailing NVC.

Should i be concerned( like any additional documents filing or any other issue that can cause delay??) if I become USC after

  • Case Completed.
  • IL Letter received.
  • Right after Interview.

Also

What should be done in cases where there is an employment change after AOS has already been filed??

Thanks

Hi,

Hello,

I paid IV Fees on OCT 07, but as of today status is still "IN PROGRESS". Isn't this a bit too long? I was assuming it would get "PAID" within 2 - 3 business days.

Anyone else on the same boat?

P.S - The IV status page doesn't show me a transaction ID.

Kaale and Dalli, exactly in the SAME boat. I paid my IV fees on the same date Oct 7th. I called NVC & they told me it might be a "system error" so give it a few days. That was last week. When I called last night, NVC said give it to up Friday 10/18/2013 to call back. So just to make sure the problem wasn't coming from my end, I called my bank if the $230 fee was presented for payment. My bank said no. The money is still sitting there as I write.

This is unduly delaying my process...On the call, I requested that a supervisor look into it. I am now waiting for that review by the supervisor. Please let me know if you call and NVC is able to resolve or tell you something different.

Yes, that's correct. On the question asking for income from tax returns/transcripts, they'd put their combined income. On the question about annual individual income though, they'd put their own income.

If they're submitting tax transcripts, make sure they include their W2s to show their own income.

Thanks Saylin!

I just found out that my parents' passports are expiring next month. And they don't have their birth certificates to show citzenship. I would assume that an expiring passport is fine because its just to show citizenship. Right?

Ok I really need help understanding the whole birth certificate requirement.

I unfortunately only have a copy of my ID/or as is also called birth vertificate.

I made a copy of that and had it translated and certified- then I sent to the lawyer both the original certified trnaslation, as well as the copy of the certificate in its original language.

Is this correct?? Or will NVC not accept this.

I spoke to NVC and she kept repeating that they need the certified copy of original language. is it not what I have provided the lawyer then?????

PLEASE ADVICE. I have no other way to get original birth certificate :(

By the way..how long do you guys recommend that I really wait to call back?

Now that they have it, call every single day!

Thanks Saylin!

I just found out that my parents' passports are expiring next month. And they don't have their birth certificates to show citzenship. I would assume that an expiring passport is fine because its just to show citizenship. Right?

Looking at the instructions, I didn't find anything about it having to be an unexpired passport. Although, if you can send the paperwork before it expires, then technically the passport is still valid when they review it.

Are they planning to renew their passports? If so, I'd suggest bringing copies of their new passports to the interview, just in case. If not, they really should get certified copies of the birth certificate... (and then you can bring a copy of that to the interview).

For NVC, they require an original or certified copy of the beneficiary's birth certificate. It can't just be a photocopy. Can you not request from the issuing agency a certified copy of your BC?

Hi K and D

Apparently CSC has been approving F2A petitions rather quickly these days.( 14-60 days) . But then taking its own sweet time sending it to NVC. (6-8 weeks).

USCIS works in mysterious ways.

Keep us updated as I will aslo be following your footsteps.

Thanks

What does a certified copy mean then. No I can not get it from any agencies anymore

All I have left from my childhood is a copy of what used to be a original.

that copy is in other language but english- so had that translated and certified.

An original birth certificate is issued at birth and there's only one of them. A certified copy is a copy reproduced by the issuing agency for birth certificates and you can typically get as many as desired (at least for the US and Canada, anyways).

What you have now, is it a photocopy you made of the original? Or is it a copy produced by the issuing agency and given to you? If the latter, that's a certified copy.

Edit: If you were born in Sweden, you should be able to request another one, as it sounds like you can, according to NVC's page about Sweden birth certificates: http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9711#docs

No not born in sweden. this looks to me like a copy of the original- my mother has passed away, and I can not find anything else about my childhood.

I pray that this will be enough.

Where were you born then?

And again, is it a PHOTOCOPY of the original, made by you or your mother? Or is it a certified copy produced from the issuing agency?

You can always try sending in what you have, but if it doesn't match the requirements of NVC for that country, then they'll issue you a checklist.
