There is a bit of confusion surrounding the time frame for police certificates. The 'Documents Required for the Interview' page on the London Embassy site says this..."Police Certificates: Required for all countries where you have lived for more than 12 months since the age of 16. Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S. Please follow this link for further information.

Police Certificates for the United Kingdom: A visa applicant who has resided in the United Kingdom for 6 months or more since the age of 16, is required to obtain a police certificate from the ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO). Please follow this link for further information.'

Beneficiary will definitely need UK and Denmark (lived there for about 3 years for diplomatic service). He lived in Mumbai for about 4 years also under diplomatic service for the British FCO. The reciprocity table says this about police certificates from India..."Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows: Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India." In the early 90s he volunteered on a kibbutz in Israel and was there about 8 months (we think on a volunteer visa).

Based on all of this... He will need UK and Denmark as India is unavailable for foreign applicants.

Questions:

Is it 12 months since age 16 for countries other than UK?

Is India really unavailable?

Is running down Israel necessary?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Its any country the beneficiary has lived in for 1 year or more since the age of 16.

OTHER than the UK in which case its 6 mths of residence or more since the age of 16.

I had to get Police Certificates for the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Yes its a pita. For Australia I had to have additional fingerprints taken. For NZ I had to get the Embassy to do it because you can't do it directly yourself, its done between the Embassy and the Consulate in NZ and I never saw it except as a glance in my file.

I'd say Israel is not necessary, since he resided there less than 1 year.

India you can't get and they'll know this too, just as they knew what to do to obtain my NZ Police report on my behalf.
