that is great news! Finally!!!!

almost there. Good luck studying for the test. I will update you when I get done with mine. Very very happy for you

Hello MJC79 -

Just wanted to check in with you and see how your interview went? Hope everything went smoothly for you...I'm just curious (if all did go well) did you get scheduled for your oath ceremony yet? Do they provide that info on the day or does it follow later...?

My interview is on May 27th...I'm pretty confident on the test questions...just hoping I bring enough documentation as I'm applying based on a marriage to a US citizen for the "proof of marriage union" bit...so vague and I feel like I gave them everything in the original application! Ah well...fingers crossed.

All the best,

LeeLee1986

Quick question for those who are done and dusted and those still waiting:

Who applied for N-400 based on marriage to US citizen?

The interview letter says to bring A LOT of documents (as ever!) However, the line "documents related to marriage union" - what documents did people produce? Proof of marriage info/documents were sent with the 10 year GC application and again with this application...did anyone take anything EXTRA? Or just produce the same stuff? Or just bring originals of stuff already sent in?

Just wondering...trying to decide what I need to take with me...what is expected, I guess?

If anyone has any ideas... :-) :clock:

For me, I just brought the same stuff. They have all of that already. My interview letter listed exactly what I should bring. That should suffice.

Hi LeeLee 1986!

My interview went very smoothly. I got approved right there and then. My IO was chatty and super nice. She apologized for the delay in processing my application too! I got notified today that I have been scheduled for oath ceremony which will most likely be after memorial day.

They don't schedule oaths same day. One word of advice - make sure you get there at least an hour before your scheduled time. The security line is very long.

I applied based on the 5 year residency rule so I only had to bring old and new passports, state id (driver's license) but to be on the safe side I also brought tax return transcripts (which you can download from IRS.gov). I will give you a few more details tonight (I am rushing for a flight right now :)) I am sure your interview will go very very smoothly!

Hi LeeLee1986,

I think you should bring all the originals of the documents you provided with your adjustment of status application and with your N-400 just to be on the safe side. My IO had a thick folder with all my documents (divorce decree, copies of my green card etc) she only asked to see my original green card.

You are better off taking more documents than missing a few that they need to see.

Best of luck for next week and let me know if you have any additional questions.

Just being curious that on my interview I was asked to repeat the Oath of Allegiance after IO:

  1. Support the Constitution;
  2. Renounce and abjure absolutely and entirely all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which the applicant was before a subject or citizen;
  3. Support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
  4. Bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and
  5. A. Bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; or
    B. Perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; or
    C. Perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law.

Is this something that all of you went thru? IO knew that he’s not recommending me for the Oath Ceremony yet rewarded my file for “Supervisor Review” why would he still conduct such Oath…? Should I take that as an initial approval from his end? Sorry folks I’m trying to patch the clues to make my self little comfortable.

Should I take that incidence as an initial approval from his end? Is it a sound promising?

My application was based on marriage to a U.S citizen. The interview letter (two pages) listed all the documents that were supposed to be submitted with the initial application. I think it's a standard thing. If you were married before, it'll list that you bring evidence of termination of all prior marriages, etc. When I went for my interview yesterday, the IO only asked for my green card...nothing else. I had to show my driver's license at the reception desk, though. Other than that, the IO only asked for my green card. She didn't ask for any of the documents listed on the interview letter. However, I brought the originals of everything I had submitted with the application. Bring them with you, especially marriage certificate, birth certificate of your husband or his passport, tax transcripts, etc. She didn't ask for any, but it didn't hurt that I brought them with me.

Sorry to keep asking you questions (you're the only other one I can see dealing with the Manhattan offices) but me and my husband are debating whether or not he should or can come with me? It says on the letter that "waiting room space is limited" but doesn't explicitly say not to bring anyone...what was the vibe down there? If you got one that is :dancing: I may tell him not to book off work...hhmmmm can you tell I'm getting nervous as the day approaches?! :-)

Hi Leelee 1986,

Dont apologize! this forum is for asking questions and helping people, so I am happy to help in anyway I can.

Honestly the interview waiting area is really large so don't worry about space. I think thats the standard line for most interview letters. Plus they have at least 5 or six interviews in session at one time so people are constantly coming in and leaving. When i was waiting for my interview the waiting area was less than 1/5th full. You should definitely bring your husband, just for moral support if nothing else. I went alone and it can be a little nerve wracking waiting for them to call you in. I saw a lot of people who had brought their spouses and even families/friends. Of course they only allow the interviewee inside the interview rooms (the rooms are actually each I/O's office). Try to sit away from the TV screens because you won't be able to hear them call your name. i had to move away just to hear them clearly.

I hope your interview goes well! Best of Luck!

On a side note: I have my Oath Ceremony scheduled for May 30 (this Friday)

let me know if you have any additional questions!

Hello - I have heard that they never on-the-spot approve N-400 applications at the interview for people who are applying based on marriage / applying after 3 years and that it is standard for them to say it is going on for review.... But I'm not 100%...that is just what I have heard...

When did you have your interview? And did you check on your online status...what does that say?

Hopefully you hear something soon ...

Thank you for your prompt and courteous attention on my posted query.

  • My Interview took place on May 5th 2014 (passed civic test- handed over N-652 saying decision can't yet to be made)
  • Status Never Changed - Still reflects old status that we sent you Interview notice in Mar 2014!

I don't think it's a standard thing. I had my interview on May 20 based on the 3 years rule and was approved. The IO checked "you have passed your civic test" and also "congratulations...it seems you have established your eligibility...bla bla bla..." She then asked me to wait in the waiting room for my oath letter which was brought to be in less than 10 minutes.
