Vancouver vs. Montreal

Alright - this question may be moot, since my fiance already faxed back our checklist...

But in reading all the Packet 3 stuff on these forums, at least one thing popped up:

Someone below mentioned that Vancouver doesn't make you fill out an I-134, I know they sent us one in Packet 3, should be filling that out?

Also, am I correct that Vancouver wants you to sign the DS 156, and DS 156k, before you bring them to the interview, while Montreal wants you to not sign them.

Sorry - my fiance has all the paperwork, and it's driving me nuts that I can't look at it all myself (guess I'm a control freak!)

If the consulate sent you the form then you probably have to fill it out. I got my interview in Vancouver and they did not ask for the I-134 but I do have it with me. It wasn't even in the checklist they sent me. I applied for K3 visa. I dont' know about the K1 requirements. But I remembered on my interview that somebody was asked for the form. It will be safe to have it anyway.

I'm K1 and going through Vancouver. They didn't send me an I-134 to fill out but it does say on the Packet 3 form that it must be filled out and submitted. There is an optional OF-167 that is sort of an "I-134 lite" that came with the Packet 3.

Texadian... really bizarre...

Our packet 3 HAD the I-134 in it... no other kind of document... I'm planning on filling it out anyways, but I find it so strange that it seems that the process is very different for those going through vancouver!

K1 through Vancouver, interview June 2005.

We were given the I-134 in the packet, we brought it, and the consular officer DID review it and the supporting financial documents.

Vancouver also requires submission of the OF-167A which should also be in your packet. Montreal does not do that to my knowledge.

The DS-156 and DS-156K were filled in and NOT signed until we were in front of the officer.

Hope that helps!

Electricity is really just organized lightning.

Thanks all - I guess I just really need my fiance to read through the entire packet to me again.

When I read through it when he was here two weeks ago, I saw that he had to sign the DS-156 and DS-156K for whatever different reason.

I also saw no other document than the I-134 for financial information.. I guess it's time to email the consulate again :-)

the financial information needed should be listed on the intructions for the I-134. They're not listed separately.

I'm in the same boat. It's funny, I was looking forward to being in the stage where I didn't have to handle it anymore. But at least having paperwork, or something else in the process, gave a nice illusion of being able to push the process forward. Now it's just 100% sitting around.

OK, OK, I shouldn't be complaining about 'anything' now that we're finally at packet 3.

We got our visa the other day and the I-134 wasn't included in the checklist. Maybe they don't require it for k-3 but do for k-1. We had it ready anyway just in case but they never asked for it. If it isn't a big deal to fill it out and bring it with you to the interview then do it. I would also be inclined to think that if the form were in the packet that you should definitely play it safe. I know its frustrating when paperwork is not consistent.

Nothing is consistent when dealing withthe governement!! best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
