I am compiling my tax information to file the I-864 soon. While I make well above the poverty line since June 2013, My father is a joint sponsor since I didn't make much money between 2010-2012 tax years. So, I have tax returns/W2s for 2012 and 2011. However, my 2010 return is a bit strange, and I can't find my W2, plus the form 1040X was used which does not indicate total income (just adjusted gross income). If my father will be submitting his tax returns+W2s for the last three years, is it necessary for me to do the same? The instructions indicate that only the most recent tax year is necessary, which should be no problem. I have already tried to get my tax transcripts, and so far only 2012 has come in and it's been 3 weeks and 2011/2010 have not come yet. If 2010 and 2011 are not necessary I would rather get this package out sooner than later. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hmmm. I asked this question before on VJ and some other members told me that since my tax returns don't indicate I had a history of making above the 125% poverty line, that it would be safe to have a joint sponsor. Either way, my parents' accountant is already preparing their documents to send to me.

I am more concerned about having tax returns for the 2011 and 2010 years. Is that necessary?

You don't need to submit tax returns for 2010 and 2011. However, you still need the "total income" number from those years, and you indicated you are having trouble with that for 2010. If you used 1040X, don't you know what changed? Can't you figure it out based on the 1040X and the original 1040? Often, the AGI and total income are the same.
