Stevie Wonder calls for more gun control

Soul superstar Stevie Wonder used his set at the Global Citizen Festival in New York on Saturday to call for gun laws in the US to be tightened.

The 'Superstition' hitmaker was one of the headliners at the Central Park concert, which aims to help tackle poverty worldwide, but he also drew fans' attention to the hot-topic weapons ownership debate.

He declared to the crowd of 60,000, "We must do something about the gun laws in this country," before noting that John Lennon was gunned down nearby in 1980 - and then performing the Beatles icon's world peace anthem 'Imagine'.

During his set, Wonder also invited onstage Ban Ki-moon, the secretary general of the United Nations, as well as singers Janelle Monae and Maxwell, according to The New York Times.

The 63-year-old singer was the final act of the five-hour concert, following sets by John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Kings of Leon, and Elvis Costello.

In July, Wonder vowed never to perform in Florida again until a controversial self-defence law is abolished following the acquittal of George Zimmerman, who gunned down teenager Trayvon Martin in February, 2012.

No, it's the person behind the gun. I know this must come as a shock to you but I have no issues with having a gun for personal protection.

I support the rights of disabled people to own firearms and carry concealed handgins for self defense.

I also support the ADA and when I visit other countries I am always amazed at how well we have done for disabled people here. Being in construction it has been a bog part of my career and still is. Far from perfect we are, but while in Kharkov, myself and a friend carried a man up the steps from a pedestrian tunnel who had no legs and managed to travel by pushing himself on a low furnture dolly. Nice life. It is Ukraine, try not to be disabled. When he needs to go up or down stairs he begs for help and depends on the generosity of people to help him. Fortunately, since there are few liability attorneys in Ukraine, people are not too reluctant to help others for fear of being sued...like they are here. 70 years of being dependent on the government taught them not to be dependent on the government but to help each other deal with life. I am always amazed at the compassion shown for elderly and disabled people in Ukraine...but the infrastructure does not make life easy for them

No doubt. He fits right into that crowd. No matter how public the crime in that community it appears to be difficult if not impossible to find an actual witness who sees it.

I am now pondering the possibility that blindness could have gone viral/airborne in some areas and the CDC is covering it up LOL
