If only they had guns to prevent this. Oh, wait...

it appears if the father had not been armed he to would have been a statistic

But if the kids weren't armed...just another domestic disturbance call. And maybe they came armed because they knew there were firearms in the home? Yep...what about that?

Yes, because the solution to the obesity problem in this country is obviously more processed and fast food.

No, that actually does not mirror the gun/ murder situation.

We have lots more guns and people are killing less.

We have lots of fast-food and people are getting fatter.

You may have to share the statistic where the guns have actually prevented the murders?

Fast and furious with those facts again, Danno? I just educated you and the other gun aficionados in the other thread. Contrary to your fantasy, while there are more guns, those guns are actually hoarded by fewer households. You see, in the 1970's, about one out of two households had a gun. A few decades later in the 2000's, only one out of three households has a gun. So while there are indeed more guns out there, there are fewer gun owners. And as the gun ownership rates have declined, so has the murder rate. That's not surprising to anyone with a clear mind.

Now we just need to work on bringing down the processed and fast foods and we may see obesity subsiding, too.

Wrong. Now, the murder rate overall has decreased. That is true. But firearms continue to account for more than 2 out of 3 murders. That rate hasn't moved down one inch.

Perhaps I should have said number of murders by guns instead of murder rate? There are less murders by firearms today than there were in 1993 and the population has increased substantially.

Yes, and the gun ownership rate had decreased substantially from 50% in the 1970's to the low 30%s in the 2000's. All these extra guns out there are just being hoarded by gun aficionados.

Spin it anyway you like. Since 1993 when homicides by guns peaked, the US population has increased by over 50 million people, the total number of guns in circulation has increased and the number of homicides by gun has gone down by several thousand. Of course you knew exactly what I meant in my prior post, but I'll spell it out in black white. Now you add whatever you want, but what I have stated is fact.

How does the number of guns in circulation matter? If those extra guns are owned by fewer people - which is what we're looking at - then it means nothing in the context of this discussion. If fewer people consume more processed and fast food, would society overall become fatter? No, it wouldn't. Despite the fact that more processed and fast food is consumed.

Using your usual logic, more guns in circulation by legal gun owners means more guns to be stolen from homes, sold illegally at gun shows, etc, so there should be even more guns ending up in the hands of bad guys making the number of murders go up. Now when a thief breaks into someone's home, they can steal 10 guns instead of 5. Then they can sell them illegally so they end up on the streets.
