Thanks CaliforniaGuy for replying. Can someone also address the issue of "how" in regards to changing the address. Online or AR11? Does my USC spouse also need to fill something to change address (she wasn't the one who filled the affidavit of support during I-485, my MIL was).

Also I have heard that updating the address via AR-11 doesn't update the address on your pending I-751 application. If that's true, whats the best way to make sure all I751 related docs are mailed to the new updated address?

Appreciate your help!!

Hi Hy2934,

If you read the instructions for the AR-11 on the online change of address USCIS website, it states that your address for your pending application address will be updated. Not sure about any rumours of it not updating a pending application, I think that depends on the specific type of pending application. However it appears that for most cases (including the I-751) USCIS states that it will update pending cases via the online change of address for non U.S. citizens, then my best advise is to follow their instructions and update online if applicable. See the website and read steps 1 and 2 and the note below step 2 in the row labeled "If you have a pending [case]..."

http://www.uscis.gov/forms/change-address-information

Not sure about which sponsor you mentioned should file a change of address, you will have to read the PDF "Instructions for form I-865" which is the sponsor change of the address form. If that is not clear then for a sure answer you can always call USCIS.

good luck!

Just received a text that our status was updated and it says card production was ordered on February 5th. I guess that means I'm approved? If so, I did not expect to get approved less than 3.5 months into the process!

All,

I had an issue regarding change of address (I751 pending) and I talked to a Tier 2 officer today over the phone. Figured I should share my experience with you all in case someone might be in the same situation in the future.

3 days ago, I used USCIS online form to change the address and submitted my I751 receipt notice (different from biometrics receipt number) in the online form. I went fine and I got the confirmation number too. However, when I tried to redo it by submitting my biometrics receipt number, it was showing error that it doesnt match the records. (tried selecting both I751 and CRI89 but didn't help). So I called USCIS customer service and they told me that I751 is the one that matters and I am good. However, other people have reported that address in CRI89 database should be changed as well to get correspondence regarding the case. So, I called USCIS again and only gave them my CRI89 receipt number and told them I can't use it to change address online and he put in service request for me with new address. Today, I was curious if it did go through and to check it out, I talked to Tier 2 officer and came to find out that the service request was sent to Texas Service center (my case got transferred from VSC to CSC) which in turn sent it to NBC saying they don't have jurisdiction over the case. Tier 2 officer told me it shouldn't have been sent to TSC in the first place and the address on my I751 and CRI89 is still showing the old one. So, he put the new service request to CSC for address change using BOTH receipt numbers (I751 and CRI89) and said I should get confirmation in 2 weeks.

So, lesson learned are: don't trust the competency of USCIS customer service agents (I guess we all knew that one!), and more importantly make sure the new address is reflected in both I751 and CRI89

Thanks!

Thank you very much for sharing your story! We are about to relocate in 3 weeks, so if we don't receive the GC before, we are going to have to do the same. We've heard horror stories about changing address while a case is pending. Some stories I've heard are delays of up to 6 months more for processing. Hope that doesn't happen any more. Did you also send the I-865 Form by regular mail?

You're welcome. I haven't heard much about cases getting delayed, but I have heard about not getting stuff at new address, and getting RFE (some speculate that changing address triggers it, but one can't be sure). By the way, yesterday I got an e-mail update saying that address has been changed on my CR189 case (biometrics receipt number). so looks good for now.

My wife will be sending her I-865 next week (USC has 30 days window after the move)

Thanks for the update. Hopefully there won't be delays, nor RFEs, and everything will go smooth. I changed my address during AOS and even after it was confirmed in the system, they kept sending some mail to the previous address. I recommend that if you still have contact with the previous address to ask them to contact you if they receive something from USCIS.
