If you believe that black people would get a fair go at life in the US without these safety nets, well, you clearly have zero understanding of the problems then and the problems now that face minority groups who are targeted and castigated.

A little history lesson is needed here.

Were it not for Big gov't creating laws such as Jim Crow, the hotels and cafe's would have been evolving away from such traditions...... why do you think they put they needed to laws in place?

Now your hope is that in the long term giving Gov't a crack in which to control the daily affairs of shop keepers and bar owners will some how give rise to our better-angels.

It has been nearly half a century, can you say the progress we have made in this regard can only be credited to federal laws?

I think facts show this country was on a trajectory of mainstreaming Blacks, there is no reason to believe that would not have continued and in many regards had been farther along were it not for other errors of Gov't.

Thats not to say that some laws were not needed such as voting rights but the most fundamental changes can not be made from a pen as these

are moral issues and these changes are not often determined in the halls of Gov't.

i may be late the party but i can tell you that there's a difference between supporting an individual's right to be racist and supporting the right of a business to hire based on race.

Well, racists help contribute to this problem. If you do not hire someone just because of their color and not based on their qualifications, you leave the person who is really trying hard to get up and help themselves, unemployed. Unemployed equals, no food, no money, no place to stay, you know the necessities people need, food, shelter, water, we were taught this in 3rd grade.

People's basic instincts are to survive!!! So, what will happen to a person who cannot get a job? They turn to prostitution, selling drugs, the type of people that the racists always complain about.

I doubt many people are discounting qualified people without cause.

The greater problem or more prevalent problem which makes a person unemployable is the lack of education, to me this is a much more grave wrong.

People are paying (in taxes) top dollar to a school system which too often graduates (if at all) students at an eighth grade level in base subjects.

At the same time, we are bringing in millions of people to compete for this same level of employment.

In the 80's Blacks opposed amnesty.

When Bush tried to pass it Blacks remained quiet.

When Obama made it a goal, Black leaders love it.

These and other things are Killing opportunity for Blacks not some barber or neighborhood cafe.

IN the end, mark my words, Blacks are going to pay for following their leaders as everything is changing in this country now, and their voice is getting smaller not bigger, their political capital shrinks more every year.
