That's exactly what I first thought... Not enough employees as of late August... (a little over a month ago..!!)...

Let's just hope it's the last round of hiring that they are doing...

It depends... but to setup a background check from scratch can take 1 to 2 months.

For people who file from Abroad, in most cases, they already had the background check done when they did the immigration procedures for their current country of Residence. (see my theory below)

-> In my case, my USC wife had to provide Police reports and other documents to get her French Visa and residence card. I remember,at the time of the processing, before we were granted, that the French immigration officer told us he would do some research before validating her Visa (I an guessing some Interpol background checks and some queries to the US police administration).

On top of that, she already had done some FBI background checks prior to this when we were in Eastern Europe, and as she did no live in the US since then, her US Criminal report should be unchanged.

=> Hence my theory about filers from Abroad: USCIS may expedite these cases, as they may consider, or (even better) see, in their systems that the background check work has already been done. As the USC is living abroad hir/her criminal record should remain unchanged, thus providing a very safe basis for the USCIS officer to grant the NOA2 without having to look deep into the systems. (or having already in the systems a nice, fresh and clean background check already...)

I filed March 28th, both my husband and I live in Canada together...we have been waiting 6 months so I can easily say that filing from abroad does not always speed the process.

I posted this on the June 2013 thread but I thought it might be interesting here too.

I saw someone else on a April NOA1 thread randomly started entering MSC#'s in their range to get info and I thought I'd give it a try.

MSC1390787999 - March 14 - and the subsequent March 15 dates still seem to all be initial review. The #'s before that start showing interview times and approvals.

Not sure if that's good news or bad and I'm not sure if it's from Overland Park or not. But it is some info.

9/2010 Met mi amor
3/2013 Mi amor was picked up by ICE
5/26/2013 Married
6/12/2013 NOA1
8/20/2013 Master Calendar Hearing postponed
10/1/2013 MCH postponed again due to shutdown! More time for USCIS to process I-130 before mi amor has to take VD.
12/24/2013 Case transferred to CSC (60 days is 2/22/14)
1/23/2014 USCIS transfer notice 2 back to NBC (Lee's Summit)
1/27-28 USCIS transfer notice 3, 4 & 5 - eventually lands in TSC
2/19/2014 New MCH hearing. Voluntary departure by June 19, 2014.
6/6/2014 Finally have the I-130 interview. Approved on the spot! NOA2
6/17/2014 Mi amor left to comply with voluntary departure order...

I tested MSC1390787997 and it was approved on April 30th, and MSC1390787999 was only 2 numbers off and it is still in initial phase. So may be the numbers are generated in random........

I don't know, but assuming the numbers are going linear, then I only have less than 700,000 and not all of them are i-130s. Hopefully we can hear some news regarding overland park soon..........

I am pretty sure this is correct.

When you see Igor's list (timeline), you can easily deduct that USCIS are currently handling late january to mid-march applications.

April filer will start getting approved this month, for sure (as long as this whole government shutdown thing does not last).

Regarding Overland Park, still no news from my side.

ANY ONE ELSE KNOWS ANYTHING REGARDING DIVISION 8 @ Overland Park?

April filers are in Missouri. That would be excellent if they started to get rid of some of the backlog. The shut down does not have an affect on the USCIS processing. As the file gets to the NVC level, the shut down will have an impact. Let's hope the government quits the baby games and starts conducting business as adults.

Just some thoughts, has anyone tried speaking with a tier 2 agent and directly ask about the ststus of division 8 at overland park. like and try and explain to them situation and beg for an answer of when to expect an approval by the center?

anyway assuming yes, what if someone files a FOIA on the status of the new facility and if or when there will be approvals by them.

the key thing here is finding out when an approval will happen. not necesarily our petition but anyone's because as soon as we get one, at least we wil know things are moving and soon enough have an estimate.

Always double check your documents and forms. Not only do you get delayed by RFEs and Checklists, but the time it takes for them to review the new items you send could be used to approve more applications. Save yourself and others valuable time!

Current Status: NVC:
-Assigned and Received NVC Case Number, IIN, and BIN April 18, 2014. (100% sure case # was assigned today because I called twice and it wasn't assigned in the morning when they opened but in the afternoon it was)
*Could not provide email then as case was still being updated in their system
-On April 21, 2014 I was able to provide my email and beneficiary's.
-On April 28 I was able to fill out DS-261
-On April 29 I received and paid AOS Fee (at 1pm)
-On May 1 I received and paid IV Fee (at 1pm [became available]), also AOS Fee shows as PAID
-On May 5 IV Fee shows as PAID and DS-260 became available and was completed. Also, AOS Package Scanned by NVC

-On May 7 IV Package Scanned by NVC

-On May 28 AOS Accepted

-On June 2 IV Accepted/Case Complete

-On June 11 Interview Email Received

-On July 3 Interview at Moscow

Note: Medical Exam scheduled after interview letter received by calling the specific clinic, earliest appointment was 2 weeks ahead)

-Visa approved, came to us, got greencard, sadly things didnt go well and divorced. Last I hears she was still in the US and got a full greencard (I notified USCIS of divorce though)

I understand that the USCIS is fee funded. Hence no side effects from the guvt shutdown.

HOWEVER; it is still a Federal agency (isn't it?). Therefore, indirectly, maybe that the shutdown will have an effect on deploying additional staff, and "opening" new divisions...
