So.. We seem to do a lot of waiting in this section (especially those of us going through MTL). So I thought I'd share a couple of things we think about whilst we wait.. To keep our minds off the process, and onto the "real" goal.. Starting lives together in the same place.

1. We are one day closer - No matter how long this process takes, we are a day closer today than yesterday!!

2. There is logic to this wait - Whether it's time to spend with family here, getting my "stuff" sorted, selling my big ticket items whatever, I need this time to close out my life and be ready to start the new one with an open heart and mind.

3. We have never had a relationship prior to this one where we spent so much time communicating! About what we want for our future, where we are going in our relationships, what happened in our previous relationships. It's all building this amazing foundation and ability to talk.. really talk.. Sometimes that's all we can do.. sit on the phone and gab for hours. But it is so good for us, and such a healthy way to start any relationship.

Any more?

Very well summarized... I think the only other thing I can think of doing while "waiting" is trying to work as much as I can to not think so much of the wait, and make as much money as possible cause I'll be unemployed until I get my EAD!!! God knows I feel bad my hunny has to support me for everything monetary the first while.... but he gets me in return

Hmmmm

So many of the things we do to keep our minds off of the process and things that we need to do for the process.

In addition to your comments on talking, I think as "non-traditional" couples on the immigration super highway, we really have to pay attention to each other. We pay attention to details, habits, likes and dislikes, quirks, childhood stories , relatives names and inlaws birthplaces. We know more about each other's finacial situation and we also document probably more than your typical couple.

We do all of this for a reason thats beyond simple caring and interest in one another , we do this because we never know what theyre going to ask at that all important interview to lift conditions.

This is a giant leap forward into the future, with a partner, who hopefully, will be the same one when death us do part.

So if you want to get philosophical, this is a good time to look at the past, with all its regrets, lost opportunituies, and dead ends we followed. We're only human and we've all made mistakes. But now's a good time to carpe diem and make life mean something, for ourselves and everyone our lives touch.

If you ever wanted to be more compassionate, now's the time. If you ever wanted to express your creativity, now's the time. If you ever wanted to do more for family, now's the time. If you ever wanted to reach more of your potential ...

Many people slip into relationships and easily slip out again. But we have to want this and sacrifice for it. So we should be stronger as couples. The question to ponder while you're waiting is: how else can I become stronger?
