One Gold story of our messed up Insurance system

Now that I have talked to the Insurance company three times. The Hospital twice and the third party biller twice, I finally got the doctors office to call me back

Only it appears itis the wrong doctors office as the Doc who did the procedure has changed practices.

So I call the 3rd party biller back and they give me the number for the correct medical practice..The biller can't help because they don't do coding only billing.

So I finally talk to the lady who does insurance, but she only does coding and certs prior to the procedure.

I finally get the right person who tells me the doctor coded it as a treatment but that should have been after the wellness exam., but that she hasno way to know what was pre-certed only what the doctor coded.

She has to re-code it. Submit it to the biller, who will contact the Hospital, path lab, anesthesiologist, and hospital who will all resubmit to the insurance company.

How many people and man hours have been spent on the insurance part as opposed to the actual procedure..

I also wonder why the Doc would not know the difference in a piece of skin and a polyp and code it in such a way as to add hundreds to the claim.

You all are right . Health care is messed up. It started with managed care.

I am skeptical that adding another huge level of bureaucracy is going to help.

So now the govt is going to mandate we buy insurance from companies that already have the system messed up

How is that going to control costs.

More of this mangled mess is what we are told by conservatives is what will make healthcare more affordable and accessible for Americans. Obviously, it has failed to do so for decades past and will most certainly not do any such thing in the decades to come. Why conservatives think that this fractured, uncoordinated nonsense is something to have more of is beyond me. PPACA doesn't change any of this nonsense. That's unfortunate. But PPACA is not to blame for this mess.

Honestly I have no idea what will fix..I got my doubts that Obama care is going to help much but something has to be done

It'll be a long road to fix this. Remuneration changes away from fee-for-service would be a good start. Obamacare does some pilots along those lines. But there's no easy fix. Sure, Medicare for all sounds great but what do you do with the millions that this ridiculous health insurance system keeps employed? In the long run, these workers would find other jobs as there would presumably be more if health care cost wasn't such an enormous burden on our economy. But the short term pain - who will stand up and voluntarily take the hit for that?
