LPR and Obamacare

For the first year it's 95.

It's not refusing to carry- you either carry or you pay 95, both are legal.

Ah, here I found another site on healthcare.gov that spells it out more clearly than the last one I found:

The fee in 2014 is 1% of your yearly income or $95 per person for the year, whichever is higher.

Not as bad as I remembered (I thought it was like 5%).

I just found the chat function (funny, it wasn't showing up on my work computer). They told me that my employer offering spousal coverage doesn't affect his eligibility for the marketplace, and if he doesn't carry insurance, the fine is based on his income alone (it's individual, not family). So it'll be $95 or 1% of his income alone, or whatever the prorated amount is if/when he gets coverage through his employer or buys coverage in the marketplace (when he's able to legally work and we can afford it). Also, being an applicant for adjusting to LPR also qualifies him for the marketplace (so it's not just LPRs).

That's not so bad.

In which case one should be responsible enough to purchase health insurance to cover for that eventuality. I'd rather folks take care of themselves than me taking care of them whenever I see the doctor and actually pay for it. Why do you hate personal responsibility? Are you some kind of a commie?

I am cleared by the VA, but my dependents are not. Just heard these exchanges open tomorrow and if you don't get it done by Dec. 15th, you are screwed.

But not even a mention of where these exchanges are, do we go to Walmart? And if we do, will we even have what they call Obamacare at the end of this week? Then they say 93,000 Wisconsin residents, I am not on of them are going to be kicked off from either Badger Care of Medicaid, use these words interchangeably and don't even know what they are talking about. Because Badger Care and Medicaid are two different agencies.

And the only one that has the final say is Governor Walker, thought we were a democracy and not a dictatorship. He is under the opinion the federal government is lying about supporting these programs. So here we have a governor that we don't know we can trust that openly admits he doesn't trust the government either.

All I know is that when young, I was told I had to fight for this country to protect the rights of people in a different country I never knew existed. If I didn't, would go to jail. And these these countries are taking away all of our jobs or I should say our government is giving them our jobs. So am questioning, exactly whom are our representatives representing?

Writing your congressman or senator on these issues is a waste of time, if they don't vote the way their party wants them to, won't be around next term. So who are these party leaders? Can't even get a name.

Not ranting, just looking for guidance. This is one issue I do not know how to deal with. News also said these people on Badger care or Medicaid have to act quickly or will have no insurance at the start of the new year. I get that, but not about having to pay a fine on their income taxes. If they can afford to pay income taxes, wouldn't be on these socialistic plans to begin with.

Another thing that hurts my poor brain, was told I was suppose to fight against socialism or communism, whatever, just a small debate as to who owns the shirt on your back. But we seem to have plenty of that here.

Oh, and if you want to fight socialism, do make sure to turn down the VA coverage. It's socialism.

True. Many Veterans have an historic tradition of entitlement, and whine like little girls when they don't get their way, going back to the Revolutionary War (Shay's Rebellion). As a veteran, I find this embarrassing. We generally take care of our own, and often, that help is in the form of a swift kick in the butt to get on with life. That doesn't mean that somebody truly in need should not get help, whether they served in the armed forces, or not. A veteran should be more self sufficient and not leeching off society in general. It was a privilege to proudly serve, and I am grateful for my opportunity to do so.

Ha, since I still have two bucks in my bank account, have to pay for everything.

Talked to my wife on this issue, works for a hospital, they are still training their insurance agents how to deal with Obamacare. Also my son who works for a larger corporation, they are running 4 weeks behind in sending out the new benefits package. That is four weeks behind today. Says he will no longer be part of his companies group, but everyone in his age and financial group. And does have the option now to choose his own insurance company.

I guess this was suppose to be all done in October, wouldn't this be 350 million people? But was extended to December 15th. Also heard Obamacare is a 1,200 page long document that these guys have to condense into a short readable comprehensible brochure. Just sounds like a little confusion may arise from this.

Son's brother-in-law works for a huge health insurance company, talk about a five buck a month health insurance policy that doesn't cover anything, but offering that so you don't have to pay taxes.

See what happens, ha don't get sick and look both ways when crossing a street.

you might want to reconsider getting on your wife's insurance plan, at the moment.

I called and asked at Healthcare.gov. They stated that if you have a GC, Temp I-551 stamp, EAD/AP you are eligible for Obamacare. The rep stated that there are no timeframes listed of when receipt of the above was received that keeps you out of eligibility.

350 million people? No. Nothing changes for people covered under employer group policies. I've got a notification in the mail just the other week from my employer advising me of just that - nothing changes. Not that I didn't know that already.

Same here with my wife. Since I am self employed had to really shop for health insurance, if I can turn the clock back about 24 years, had a single payer plan. Didn't make any difference for your health, your age, a member of a large group, or self employed. Just two different rates, either single or family, and with a family didn't make any difference if just a couple or if you had ten kids.

Wife insisted on working, she always had, and didn't feel it was right for me to support her daughter, was in a large group, so did get far better rates. Signed up for the family plan so didn't cost anything extra if I was part of it.

What has changed in just the last couple of years is the deductible, we elected that, if the deductible was $2000.00 and it was, a non-deductible policy was $2,000 more. And you paid that amount extra whether you used it or not. Today that increased to $5,000.00 and that is how much extra a non-deductible policy would cost us.

Since my wife works at this hospital, tells me if a dead broke person come in with a severe car accident, they have to treat them for free. But if you own a home under the same circumstances, will take that away if in a similar situation. So not a good not to have health insurance.

Also back at the time, they invented a precondition, sure glad they are getting rid of this. Had a kid with a precondition, kicked him off my policy. Medical cost also skyrocketed, didn't take very long to completely blow my IRA, life insurance, and life savings. Either that or let my kid die.
