I'm all wrapped up in the K-1 visa stuff and wanted to talk about other interesting info about Thailand.

I have already made the arrangements for my Thai style wedding. We rented a room at the Imperial Mai ping in Chiang Mai for the party and will either fly to Hong Kong or Delhi for a week honeymoon. I wanted to talk about thai style wedding and what to expect. I have already aggreed on Sin-sot and am currently building a house in Thailand for my soon to be wife. I wanted to discuss if possible the: How much is a good Sin-sot? What to expect from the Thai style wedding? How much do you believe her family will play into your current relationship? Do you plan to bring her sisters or family to the USA? Any ideas or talk on the above would be awesome, thanks.

A good sin-sot is when they pay you

Try this page out for a Thai wedding

Thai Wedding

Sin-Sot is based upon family and the value they put on their daughter.

If they are divorced or have kids sin-sot would be little or nothing..

A Virgin with a good education would bring a large sin-sot.

Her family will vist if they can get a visitor visa.

Hopefully the family will like you and want you to be a part of the family.

The amount of the Sin-Sot is really up to the parents of the bride. I was told by my fiancee that it would be somewhere between 250,000 to 500,000 baht (Everyone is different). I was told that the monies are to pay for the party and the remaining would be given back. But as anything, there's no guarantee how much will return back to you. good luck and congratulations.

I wanted to talk about thai style wedding and what to expect.

Start practicing how to sit or squat down (as if you were in a Thai temple)... We did a Thai ceremony at my wife's moms house in Thailand before she came over to the USA. My leg muscles were not used to squatting down and after being in such a position for a long time, once I stood up my legs were very shaky :D

Hey congrats and good luck!!

regards,

George

David,

Sinsot is a much debated issue, and the Thai people themselves have almost as many different opinions as to what its purpose is and how much it should be as do farang. You provide 0 (zero) information about your fiancee, so it's impossible for anyone (except for those who say, 'no sinsot, no way') to hazard a guess as to what should be reasonable.

Another of your questions is easy - your fiancee's family will play a major role in your future life. You are marrying into her family, like it or not. So I hope you like it.

None of my wife's family are interested in coming to the USA for other than a visit. Her parent's did visit last year at this time, they hated the cold and the length of the trop, we may not be able to get them to visit again even in summer.

Visit the Thai-Farang Board on Delphi Forums for good discussions on these kinds of issues.

dakineman,

That's a rather large sinsot - high even for a solid middle-class woman. What is your fiancee's background?
