I completely understand now.

Driving permit? Is it a driving lesson? Is it for Identification? My fiance said I can just get an state ID instead of driving permit for identification, is it a good idea?

Thank you very much for the answers. Such a great help for me. Very informative. :)

Yeah it's a good idea for a state ID card! That way you don't have to carry around your passport everywhere. Check the requirements to obtain one in the state you will live. Some require you to be a resident for a certain amount of time.

It will expire in 6mos. Now the moment you enter the US soil your K1 visa is automatically expired. Immigration officer in the airport will give you form which is the i-94. You will be given 90 days to get married otherwise you need to go back home.

Thank you very much for the answer. :)

Thank you for the reply! :)

I will check once I arrive in the US, hehe. One step at a time, need to pass the CFO first. Whew! :)

State ID for you is OK, but officially you have to carry your passport when out and about until you have your EAD or GC... this from CBP. No my wife did not carry her passport all the time, (I did have a photocopy of her BIO page and visa in my wallet), but when riding where we would cross a CBP check point she for sure had her passport on her.

Check points are part of the "joy" of living in AZ (and a couple other states next to Mexico)

A state ID is kind of like your PI Postal ID. Just shows who you are.

But a driver's permit or driver's license does about the same thing. A permit is what you will get first, as you learn to drive. You are allowed to drive with a licensed driver in the front seat with you. Then when you are doing well enough to drive alone, you take a driver's test with your state, and they upgrade your permit to a license if you pass the test.
