Administrative Processing at consulate before interview

All,

Is it normal for the case status to go into AP (from ready status) after arriving at the embassy and before getting packet 3? I would understand if it's a routine status to indicate initial acceptance of paperwork at embassy. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks in advance.

You are correct, this is a necessary step before getting a Packet 3 email (invitation to the interview). Check this http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Russia&cty=Moscow under "What forms should be send back to the Consulate?"

Well, the case is still in Administrative Processing. After two weeks in AP, I sent email to Moscow asking if I can set up interview and list of next steps. Reply from the embassy said I could go ahead and set up interview and included attachment letter of next steps. When we submitted form 160 online, case date updated. Not really sure why it's listed as AP (they didn't answer that part of my email) but I hope the interview will be approved and visa received without any delay. I guess we'll see what happens.
