Went to bed bath and beyond yesterday in Chicago to get some popover tins which were ridiculously hard to find, and saw they have a World Market there as well, and i found COFFEE CRISP!!! $2 a bar OUCH but OMG it was sooooo good. Hubby was happy as well. he used to eat dozens of them when he came to visit me up north :)

My parents are coming next month.

I'm asking for maple syrup, passion flakies, habitant pea soup, ketchup chips and maybe bear paws. I wish they could bring curd cheese too, but the drive would be too long for it, and I'm not sure about how customs are about cheese.

I've found Maple leaf cookies and Aero chocolate at Publix here as well as Quebec maple syrup at Rouses.

I just got a job at CVS here about a month ago. I found that they have Maple Leaf cookies as well. When I was unloading truck one day I saw them and literally shouted "WHAT!" So excited!

Cheez Whiz for sure, but Pizza Pops may not be allowed across the border. I know some meat is allowed to come across now, but not sure if Pizza Pops falls int hat category. (Fun fact...I worked at a Pillsbury factory in Canada a few years before I moved to the USA and ran the machine that filled the pops, then sealed them and fried them...very neat process! We only ran them a few times when I worked there as we did back up for the factory that made them full time). The line primarily ran the Pizza Mini's, which was also a neat process.

i am not the biggest fan of cheez whiz. But Passion Flakies and Ah Caramels are DELICOUS! They are available at Meijer though.

I have asked for some Lise Watier makeup ( from Shoppers) which I cannot find here, and some Kraft peanut butter. Oh and some liquid gel Advil extra strength (400mg)

I do miss the Winnipeg rye bread too. But, I can live without it.

There's no Smarties in the US? Or good ketchup chips? What about All dressed?

There are Smarties in the US, but they are what we know as Rockets in Canada.

I really don't like the Herr's Ketchup chips at all. My mother in law keeps buying them for me thinking she found these chips I love from home...but I have told her thanks, but you don't need to keep getting them...they are a different brand. She doesn't understand lol! Gotta be Lays Ketchup! And oh how I miss All Dressed! Makes me think of the beach. We ALWAYS brought a big bag of All Dressed when we went to the beach growing up (which was all the time as I lived on Georgian Bay!)

On the sauce tip, how about Diana Sauces? I went to their website and there is a question in the FAQ about coming to the USA and they are not. I'm sure I've seen it here though. Anyone else?

Also if you're looking for cheese curds, look no further than Wisconsin or Minnesota, get them at most any grocery store.

I miss Old Dutch Ketchup chips.. ah caramel snack cakes ..

then a whole host of chocolate bars.. wunderbar, caramilk, coffee crisp.

hp sauce (dad sends me down a bottle at christmas each year!), st hubert sauce and bbq seasoning. hmmm what else? mom has me bring her back Byrds custard? pop tastes funny here, so I stick with canada dry gingerale. I wish I could find cheese curds to make my own poutine.

as for canadian other products, I wish I could find penaten baby cream for when we have kiddos. We always used it on my nieces. the diaper cream here smells rank.

What. Are you telling me they don't have wunderbars in the states?

I might have to re-think this immigration thing... husband vs. wunderbar.. don't make me choose!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
