Oh how I will miss ending a drunken night out with a good ol greasy poutine :( And Montreal style bagels... their bagels are just not the same!

Did you know that St-Viateur Bagels delivers to the states? You just need to order at least 4 dozen.

Now that I'm pregnant, I'm like... What do you mean, I can't send my husband for a poutine run at 3am? I miss it so very dearly. And unfortunately, I can't even make one at home since they don't even have curd cheese here in southern Alabama D:!

I'm seriously considering learning to make my own cheese...

Has anyone else noticed that "ranch" dressing tastes different in the states? Its like ... sweeter? Maybe its just me ...

Absolutely! So many things taste different... I think one of the main distinction between Canadians and Americans are our taste buds!! Everything is sweeter and greasier in the states. Thank God I love to cook or I'd probably gain 50 lbs in the first few months! lol

It's not like I eat Poutine often... but when I crave it I need it! I feel bad for you and your baby :( If i were you I would look into to some Italian cheeses, you may be able to find the squeakiness of cheese curds. And have someone send you poutine sauce pouches... it's different than regular gravy!

Now I'm hungry!!

Also I have discovered something surprising this summer - as people have complained about bug bites I mention Afterbite and no one seems to know what it is. I explain and they look mystified. I looked it up on Amazon.com and it seems the most popular use is a cream for toddlers, but you can get the actual Afterbite. I was pretty surprised! Is it just this area that no one has heard of it in?

The CVS I work at sells Afterbite. It is only seasonal though, and EVERYONE buys it as it never lasts on the shelves all that long.

Hmmm interesting. We don't have CVS here so maybe that's why. I wonder if Rite-Aid would have it then. I'll have to check next time. I tend to just order things off Amazon lately!

i miss naniamo bars

I made my own last week!! I was in Canada two weeks ago and was trying desperately to find nanimo mixes to take back with me with no luck. I guess they come out around Christmas? Anyway, I used a recipe I found online and they turned out excellent! Gave some to our neighbour who watches our cat when we go out of town and she LOVED them! Here is the recipe I used

Yea it is definitely only there for the summer and is with the other summer bug repellant. We have the regular Benadryl itch sticks year round though.

I also buy lots off Amazon. Yay for Prime! Sometimes it is just easier to wait for the two day deliery than to go out and actually get things.

I made Nanaimo bars for Fiance and his roommates, they loved them! Super easy to make, but the recipe I had required many bowls, and lots of time... (Make one layer, chill, make the next layer, chill..etc)

We had a KD taste test (Canada vs. US) and they are slightly different too...

I also found that bread in the US (At least what I have tried) is sweeter than Canadian. My fiance thinks our bread is salty...

Thank goodness for Amazon, right?

Is it just me or do Cheerios taste a lot sweeter in the US? I was going to give them to our 10 month old but the 3rd ingredient is sugar and they taste sweeter than I remember.

yes, I have made delicious Naniamo bars several times. it is a long process but so so so worth it. I have made them for my husband and his family a couple times and thy LOVE them too. Such a delicous thing. I even like the M&M ones, but homemade is better!

I think Kraft Dinner tastes pretty close to the same. But yeah, bread is horrible. So sweet. I miss my good ol' Winnipef Rye

We live somewhere super humid, and everything molds super fast. Well... I remember back in Quebec, if I left sliced bread out for a week, it would get moldy. Here, you can leave the sliced bread out for months and it doesn't mold. And it's not even a joke, kinda creeps me out.

I made nanaimo bars and took them to a camping trip with my husbands family & extended family, they all LOVED them, I took tons and they all wanted seconds. I'm like....yes that is what you are missing out on here. I showed my coworkers a picture of poutine, none of them have even been to Canada, and they were like ..ew.. and I was like no you have no idea how delish it is. There is a nearby little food place that sells it..it sucks..they use cheddar cheese curds that taste terrible. I made it better myself with havarti cheese cut up. I really miss Loblaws & Presidents Choice products. I need to stock up on stuff when we go home for Christmas. Lots I won't be able to take back..but I will take what I can! I used to save up so many points with them, and none of the stores here have any programs as good.

Nanaimo bars are the best!! I am visiting my fiancé in December in South West Florida and I've found a food truck that sells poutine, A couple that started this business a few years ago and she's Canadian so I'm putting my trust in her to satisfy my once in a while cravings!

if you have a world market in the area ( a few of them in Chicago) you can get Canadian stuff there too, 2$ a chocolate bar.
