I am preparing to start the petition for a CR-1 for my wife (Kenyan citizen, married in 2002) but I only have tax returns for 2012. From 2007-2011 I was living in Kenya and was not earning an income, thus did not file any returns, the last being in 2006.

My wife previously had an IR-1 which expired in 2004. Will this lone tax return cause me problems? Should I include my 2005 and 2006 returns?

Thanks for any advice.

If you were not required to file you can just write a simple cover-letter saying you weren't required to file because you didn't make the income guideline to file. You put $0 for 2011, 2010. You will have your, letter of employment for job now, pay stubs (last 6 months or if they are YTD most current) and 2012 Tax transcripts. that's it.

I would strongly seek a co-sponsor just to have for back up for interview just in case. You'll be fine through NVC.

Oh wait you are just filing which means by the time you are at NVC we may very well be in 2014 and 2013 will be needed. So keep that in mind also.
