Hello, thanks for having the forum. Here is my question. My sister applied for me in 2002 and I'm currently waiting for my appointment.I already have my Montreal, Canada # etc. I live in Canada, I know it's a long process but that's not my question. My question is I am filed as a SINGLE person. If I now would like to marry my girlfriend will this in ANY way affect my current application as a single applicant. I have no desire to re-apply or have my sister start the process all over again. BTW, my new wife has no desire to move to the USA; her life is in Canada. We plan to live on the border of Ontario, Canada and Michigan, USA! Have the best of both worlds. Thanking you in advance.

I don't have a definate answer, but kool you all can live in Windsor

while U work US wages in MI, the same bus that runs downtown

MI (tunnel bus) run in town also at Windsor & a short trip, also no

hassles there as other crossings...I think waiting to get GC then

marriage is best...but not sure

Getting marry has no affect on a petition for a sibling. In fact, you could add your wife as a derivative beneficiary to your case.

You cannot live on the border. You either live in the US or in Canada. You can only have one permanent resident.

How are you two going to maintain one resident as a married couple? If she does not immigrate to the US, then will you be living by yourself in Michigan? If you live in Ontario with her, then you will lose your green card. A green card is for living in the US. It's not for living in Ontario with your wife. With a green card, you are required to live in the US.

A green card holder is required to live in the US. He cannot live in Windsor and keep his green card.
