Nevada state assembly Republican Leader Pat Hickey said in a radio interview this week that the 2014 election will be good for Republicans because minorities and young voters won't turn out like they did in the 2012 presidential election.

"Probably where we had a million voters turn out in 2012, we'll have like 700,000," Hickey told a local conservative talk radio host on Tuesday. "A lot of minorities and a lot of younger people will not turn out in a non-presidential -- it's a great year for Republicans."

It is an honest assessment. The party out of power generally does better in off year elections. No surprise there. He probably should have left it at that, rather than getting into too much detail, but since young people and minorities usually despise the Republicans, I don't see any harm. Just more fuel for the smug Democrats to feel good about themselves while they kill babies and turn our children into illiterate wimps.

I don't get it..It sounds like he gave an honest political assessment about the base voters of the opposition not turning out.Why is this even news.

If a Democrat said , our chances are good I don't think the religious right will turn out would anyone bat an eye.

Plus he is some obscure State Rep.. Hardly a player on the national stage

Lots of kooks on both sides at that level.
