Since my husband didn't change last name or anything after getting married, first we got his ssn after 3 weeks of being in America. Got married after two months. Was able to sign him up for health insurance (and joint bank acct) because he had ssn and our marriage certificate after being married. Applied for AOS (EAD and AP) after 6 months of being in US. You can apply for AOS anytime after marrying and having your marriage certificate on hand. 3 months after applying for AOS my husband got his EAD/AP card and he was able (use EAD/AP card) to test for drivers permit (in WI) then license. After a long wait, reapplying for EAD/AP card (at no cost) we finally got greencard after an interview.

Hope this helps you and good luck to you two. It's still a long road ahead of y'all.
