Hi everyone!

My name is Chris and I am a newb I guess, as far as posting on here is concerned. I have lurked on this site for quite a while, but just recently became a member. I met my fiancé on a dating website, and we don't live that far away from one another. He lives in West Fargo, ND and I live in Winnipeg. We have been doing this long distance weekend relationship thing for several months now. I am generally the one who drives down to visit him, as his job has him driving all over North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. He has come up to see me a couple of times though.

We are planning to marry soon, within the next few months...when we both can catch a breather from work. In the meantime I have been learning so much from this site. There are so many helpful members on here and it has made it easy to prepare for the "journey" in advance. We will probably marry in the US, and I will return to Canada and he will file the forms for my immigrant visa, and we will go from there. Neither of us is getting any younger, and we know what we want. It doesn't look so hard, as long as we follow procedure correctly we should do just fine.

I will likely start posting lots more once the process begins, and I will definitely be asking some questions. Looking forward to moving through the process with your help.

We originally filed a K1..but back in January/February/13 K1's were going slow especially at CSC. We decided to get married in April and we then withdrew the K1 and filed an 1-130. Now I know this was a mistake!! Had we stuck with the K1 we would be together now. Its's like gambling! Our reasons for changing were that we were older 50's and I have an elderly dad in Canada...and I was worried about getting Advance parole if he got sick. We'll my dad's doing fine and now we are waiting on an NOA2 and figure we might be together by our first anniversary April 2014. GRRRRRR.

Oh and we thought we'd save some money with the 1-130...well thats been eaten up numerous times by the costs of flights to see each other every other month. There really is no fast way to do this journey! I have never had any problems visiting nor has he..we are straight up with IO's. And our intent is true. I have never been questioned much at all. I do bring ties to Canada as we both own homes and work in canada and US. I come prepared but thus far all is good. Touch wood!

In many ways we are luckier than others due to the easy passing of the border with Canada/US. We are doing it by the book. And waiting...and waiting...getting older by the day....

all the best!

Well, we weighed out the options and because of work commitments up here and financial reasons we have opted to wait it out after we marry. We aren't that far away from each other that we couldn't do the LDR thing until everything is processed. He travels away from home all week anyway also, so the CR-1 route seems to make most sense.
