Fingerprints needed for getting Police Reports?

Do any of you know if you need to send fingerprints in when asking for a police report from another country? My fiancee is a Japanese Citizen and I am a US citizen. She needs a Police Report from Australia. I have not seen anywhere where the US Embassy ask for fingerprints for a K-1 Visa, but it was mentioned on the Australia Police Website that it may be required in some cases. She is definitely not a criminal. Any experience with this? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same doubt a few weeks ago. I'm Brazilian and will be interview here in Brazil, but I lived in Australia for 4 of the last 5 years, so I also had to request an Australian police check. I emailed the US Consulate here in Rio and they said they don't require the fingerprints check, and that all I need to take to the interview is a document issued by the official Australian authority (the AFP).

So I think your fiancé only needs the normal AFP police check, but I suggest you email the US embassy / consulate in Japan just to be sure.

If applying for US visa in Australia police check needs to include fingerprints as per http://canberra.usembassy.gov/iv_faqs.html thus the info on police website. Check with your local Us embassy what they ask for but I have found on US embassy in Tokyo this info: " If you need to obtain a police certificate from a foreign country and fingerprints are required by the police authority of that country, the Visa Branch of the U.S. Embassy may take fingerprints without a fee. Fingerprint service is available at the Visa Branch of U.S. Embassy Tokyo on Fridays (excluding U.S. and Japanese holidays) from 14:00-15:30. The AFP doesn't require fingerprints checks -- it simply says they're available. That's why I think your fiancée will be fine if she gets their regular police check. But do contact the consulate where she'll be interviewed just to be sure. And if she does need the fingerprints, agnesb has already explained you how to proceed. =)

You should probably wait for your case number. Our report was sent from the New Zealand police to US Embassy in New Zealand to Tokyo embassy directly. Obviously, our case number was the link to us.
