I realize this isn't a movie everyone would want to see. But for those who might have watched it, how was it? I hope it was accurate and not hollywood-ized.

By hollywood-ized I mean when the story is made unrecognizable because some director decided to give it a new "twist". lol. For instance: When 'Noah's Ark' was on TV a few years ago, it was horrible and inaccurate, placing people from different centuries in the Bible into the same story. Lot (Abraham's nephew) was not involved in the story of Noah's Ark and wouldn't be born for at least 200 years! Yet ABC or one of those channels decided he was.

We want to see The Nativity Story but are waiting until it goes to the cheaper movie theater. :hehe: Hopefully that happens before Christmas!

I'm hoping it's true to the Biblical account.

Haven't seen it yet but will soon.

Another good movie is 'One night with the king' about the book of Esther.

My pastors son in law wrote the novel for this film, Tom Tenney.

Oh, yeah I heard about that movie too. Sounds good!

I have not seen the movie yet but would like to. I have a friend who is into films and said it received bad reviews. :( I guess the woman who played Mary (the same young gal in whale rider) did a "flat" job where as Joseph did a great job.

I still want to go for myself because many of movies have been described as bad but yet I still liked it. o

I dont think the community has embraced her pregnancy...

Many dont talk about it, which is the opposite of embracing.

I read that a lot of them commended her choice to keep the baby.

that would be a bit different, would it not, than "...embraced her pregnancy... " as i'm certain many of those who commend her for keeping the baby are, in all likelihood, pro-life.

Duh... they're ALL pro-life. By "embracing the pregnancy," I mean that they have chosen to put a positive spin on the story, rather than condemning the actress. You know, because they want to promote her religious film.

maybe cause saying anything negative about her pregnancy would be shooting the film in the foot? :P

I haven't seen it yet, but a friend who has was talking about it today. One big problem he mentioned was the appearance of the Magi at Jesus' birth. Supposedly writers did a lot of research to ensure the movie's accuracy, yet apparently didn't look too closely at the Biblical account. The Magi weren't there at Jesus' birth, only the shepherds were. The Magi were led by the Star some time later, up to two years. Jesus and his family at that point were no longer at the stable near the crowded inn, but were staying in a house in Bethlehem, likely a house owned by Joseph or a close relative. Also, when the Magi came, they went to Herod in Jerusalem, who after sending them onward to Bethlehem, ordered all the male children in Bethlehem two years and under killed, indicating that Jesus could have been as old as two at the time. He is also referred to as a "child", not an "infant." Perhaps he was even talking when the Magi arrived!

The movie also attempts to explain the Star as a conjunction of planets. Problem is, no astronomical phenomenon quite fits all the things said of the Star in Matthew, particularly stopping over a specific house..

On the positive side, Jesus' birth is portrayed as a normal human birth, including Mary going through a painful labor, and Jesus crying when born.
