Letter from employer about my employment

Should I ask my boss for the letter stating my job title, start date, salary, and full-time status tomorrow, or is it too soon? (See timeline in my signature for where we are in the visa process.) My 3-month "probation period" with this job will end January 26th, I'm not sure if I'll get a raise then (hehe I hope so)... but I'll probably have my NOA2 by then anyway... so... I may as well get the letter now, I guess? Especially in case it takes them a week or two to actually print and sign it for me? Or would the date on it be too early?

Is there anything else the letter should say? Do I have to specify for it to be on company letterhead?

Thanks! :)

VSC is know for issuing NOA2 pretty quickly, but you never know. I guess the answer would depend on how soon after the petition arrives at the consulate would you have an interview? Expiration for these forms is dated from time prior to the interview.

Basically, your employer letter should state "To whom it may concern: (first name, last name) has been employed

full-time with the XYZ Company since 200_ as a (name of your job), and is an employee in good standing with an

annual salary of $XXXX. Signed, John Doe, Supervisor (or whatever title)" The letter should be on company

letterhead.

Yeah, I won't fill out any forms, and if I do I'll leave the date blank to be filled in later. How much does the date matter on the letter from the employer, though? Is there a time period that it would "expire" in? I'm gonna go play around with the timeline search to see how people did with interview scheduling with the Paris embassy.

I would wait until your probationary period is over, as you said it may mean a pay increase which would look good for you but also it gives more credence to the job than have your employer state that you are still in the probationary period.

Good Luck on your Journey!!

Our NOA1 date is 11/24, it's been taking VSC 3 or 4 weeks to process the petitions lately... even with Christmas, without a RFE, I'm guessing we should have it no later than early January... which would mean getting it before my probation period is up anyway. I feel selfish saying this but I sure as heck hope that, by January 26th, the NOA2 will have been in our hands for at least a week or two. But maybe I should wait til we get the NOA2 online since we might not have it before then, cuz who knows what could happen. I'm not sure.

Angilla,

my fiancé talked about this letter with his supervisor way ahead of time, so she would know, but didn't get the actual letter yet. We think it would be best to wait until the last possible minute ( so the date is recent). He's only going to send it to me after we have an interview date scheduled.

Let your employer know that you'll be needing one, and ask them how long it would take to get one. That way you'll be prepared. Also, a priority mail from here to his town (it's a small one) took only 3 days (normal mail takes around 3 weeks). I think you still have plenty of time.

Ah, that's a good point, JaJo. My main concern was I didn't want to catch my employer off-guard and I didn't want my employer to take forever to get it to me when I need it. That idea solves both concerns. Thanks! :)

I spoke with my boss a long time ago about this letter and it doesn't seem to take long to do.

Then again, maybe it depends where you work.

I am a teacher and I have my contract from last year with my salary on it and I have another one given to me in September stating when I began, my salary, etc. (This is better because I got a huge raise).

I'm going to the interview with my fiance so I'm bringing as much proof as possible.

Should I ask for another letter on top of the one I was given in September - maybe one that has a more recent date?

I plan on taking my latest pay stub with me along with my last one from this year showing how much I earned.

Angilla, something else. I was reading your post to my fiancé and he told me he took a template from VJ, typed all the necessary info and saved it as a .pdf (but you can save it as .doc or whatever). He showed it to his supervisor so she could say if it was ok. When the time comes, he'll just print that out on paper with the company letterhead and ask her to sign and date it. Save them work and you, time.

Glad you asked this one, Angilla, as I was about to post a very similar question, in relation to the bank statement rather than the employer's letter, though. I've searched the forums for a definitive answer on how 'recent' the financial support evidence has to be at the time of interview, but haven't had much luck so far. My fiance (the USC) banks with a small credit union, and over New Year he's moving to another city where they don't have a branch. He reckons he'll be able to just phone them and ask for the statement we need, or at worse, get his mum to go and pick it up... but as he hasn't checked with them, I'm inclined to worry! I've been wondering if he might be better off getting a statement dated late December rather than finding out later on that he'll have to take a half-day from work just to sort it out. But we're several weeks (at best) from our NOA2, so it might be far too early...

Not trying to thread-hijack, but am interested in any answers on the timeframe and how 'old' the financial support info is allowed to be! :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png
