I am marrying my wife who has a son from a previous marriage, my understanding is that I will need a I 130 for both and I 485 for both, is this correct is there any additional documents I may need such as the divorce decree ? Can translations be done with a friend or must they be done professionally, thanks in advance

Is the Father OK with this, will he give his permission?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Translation for a birth certificate, for example, can definitely be done by a friend that knows both languages. I think it should be the same for any other document (though I'm not completely sure if there are not specific rules for "more important" documents, such as divorce decrees, my guess is not).

so, you are filing an Adjustment of status for NOT a K-1 visa holder -

so the AOS for the child is exactly like the mother's. I-130, I-485, etc etc plus the medical exam.

If you'd like the child to have a SSN prior to getting a greencard, apply for the EAD on him as well - filing fee is waived when sent in with the I-130.

I THINK the filing fee for the I-485 on the child is less, when filing together with the mother (compared to the mother's fee on the I-485)..
