Way to identify the problem! How can you tell somebody is mentally deranged before they legally buy a firearm? Look at some of the posters here that admit having guns, and admit having problems with authority - not a healthy mix for a civilized society.

Are you suggesting we share medical records with the government? Obama's been doing his best to have a national database created, that way they can remotely target anyone deemed "undesirable."

Nope. Just verifiable proof you have been screened for mental illness in the last thirty days before making a purchase. And universal registration, in case you fail your annual screening. Truck drivers and school bus drivers have to maintain current medical certificates, why not gun owners?

You mean "crazy", right?

Why not gun owners? Because owning a gun is a right. Driving a bus or truck is not.

As for screening in the last 30 days, who does that? Who's going to pay for it? What is the standard of, "fit to own arms?"

Registration? Really?

Are you sure you're not the one that needs screening?

Inherently they don't. As long as you follow strict guidelines while operating them, and have a gunsmith check them you should have no ill effect.

Too bad that reality doesn't bear that out. There are numerous studies out there that show quite clearly that a gun in the home increases your risk of being hurt or killed by a gun.

Um...you don't think we're not all currently in a database located in multiple lists? And Obama just thought of this? huh.png Surly you jest.

And you we're suppose to be the smart guy in the Air Farce? lol

Somehow I see you sitting there thinking the gun is just going magically jump up and kill you.

I'll repeat myself - If you use tobacco for 50 years there are no precautions to preventing illness or death from tobacco.

If you use firearms for 50 years and you:

1. Treat the firearm as loaded at all times.

2. Inspect the chamber any time you pick the gun up to verify if its unloaded.

3. Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.

4. Store the ammunition separately and secure the firearm when not in use.

5. Get older firearms inspected prior to shooting.

6. Inspect the ammo prior to shooting.

7. Wash your hands immediately after handling lead.

8. Have a zero tolerance for using substances while in possession of a firearm.

9. Inspect that the muzzle is not obstructed.

You will have a good 50 years and keep on living.

People die in the home because they break all or most of the rules above. The rules overlap to help safeguard from human error. e You can't blame the product for that whereas in the case of tobacco it is the product where the blame lies.

Yes, in an ideal world, that might be so. That's not where any of us live, however. We live in the real world and in the real world, having a gun in the house, increases your risk of being injured or killed by a gun. Just as smoking tobacco increases your risk of certain illnesses.

OMG seriously?

MITIGATION - you can practice it with a firearm but not tobacco. That is my point. Continue to prattle on about risk all you like.

Sure I can. I can hoard all the tobacco products I want in my home and follow one simple mitigation technique that will eliminate all risk to my health that is associated with tobacco products. That single, simple mitigation technique is to just not consume the tobacco products. Now, in the real world, nobody would hoard tobacco products in their home without someone there using them. Thus, if you live in a household that has tobacco products, your risk of contracting one of the illnesses that is associate with tobacco consumption increases. Same goes for guns.

I'm sorry I just realized you have been trolling the last page or two. You haven't actually attacked my original statement in this thread, you're just dragging it along odd tangents like above.

I'm applying some fantasy scenario to tobacco products just as you have done for guns. With that fantasy instead of reality applied, we both arrive at the same conclusion that no harm necessarily comes from either product. And because you can't refute that, now I'm somehow trolling. That's amazing.

You must be joking! You claim that storing a product and never using it is mitigation. Thats preposterous, and I am calling you out as a troll. The safety rules I mentioned are hardly fantasy.

Your signature doesn't seem to apply to you does it.
