I do Wilmington, NC to Hamilton, ON in ~15 hours including the border (if I were closer to I-95 I'd offer a place to crash on to save on hotel costs).

If your USC fiance is coming to get you, have them pick up the U-Haul in Buffalo; seemed to be ~$200 cheaper than starting from Canada. The drop fees for most rental cars makes it less fun to take an SUV, minivan, or 15 passenger van (max out your space) from what I could find.

Check out Buffalo options for U-Haul, it was cheaper than when I looked in Canada.

The only issue with Buffalo is driving back to London, ON...it's about 300km and you pay per km. I wonder if it still ends up cheaper. I shall take a peak at work today and post results!

Buffalo is the same rate, no real price different there. Same daily rate and $0.59/m

Not sure why you keep mentioning paying per km with Uhual---I never did back in 2004---and when I goto the Uhaul webpage, its a flat rate, and u get so many miles with that rate. The price one pays when moving to the USA is different than what you would be paying for a local move. You can get a quote right online at their webpage

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

What you see is the daily rate. So for a pickup truck, it's a daily rate of $19.95 which is in big bold letters, and the find print says "plus $0.49/kilometer"

As long as you have double checked--as local moves vs long distance moves ie not returning the truck to the same location, is usually different

I just did a quick estimate on the UHaul site London to Wilmington NC (it automatically gave 5 days of use so that may not be true...I chose a Thurs pick-up)- cheapest is a 10' truck was $1744.(mostly due to the number of days of use) . 14' was $1822

Pick-ups and cargo vans were not available for that type of travel

Yep--not all Uhaul vehicles are allowed to cross borders, or be dropped off at other locations

ABF U-pack is in Canada. That's what my husband is using and he is in Woodbridge. They offer 2 options: space on a trailer or the Relo-Cube. Both you have to pack yourself, don't be fooled even though a semi-truck is an option. Terminal-to-Terminal just means that they will not offer services to unload/pack it for you. That's extra. The Terminal-to-Terminal options still means that they will come to you so you can load your stuff. You do not have to take your stuff to their terminal.

ABF U-pack is dropping a Relo-Cube off in the morning at my husbands house, he and some friends are packing it up and then the Relo-Cube will be picked up that night. When it gets here to Arizona, we will be notified and just have to schedule a time for them to drop it off at our house, we will empty it and then they will come back and get it.

When I go on the U-pack site and click terminal-to-terminal, it automatically puts the terminal locations addresses as the to/from locations and says "Select the date you wish to load your ReloCube at our Brampton terminal." I don't see where it says that they will still come to you with that option - am I blind?

So I just checked, now that I disovered how to get a flat rate from the U-Haul Website: picking up the U-Haul in Buffalo setting it as a Buffalo to Atlanta trip saves me $600. Holy moly!

And to be able to do that--the USA citizen has to pick up the truck--the Cdn partner can not

I should say a Cdn citizen can bring a rental vehicle into the USA, BUT one has to have some sort of status in the USA...Once u get your green card you can...but of course that doesnt help u out right now,lol.........

The description regarding the relo-cube should included door-to-door delivery. On my quote, it does give the terminal address for pick/delivery, but they are dropping off the relo-cube when we have it scheduled on both ends. You may just want to give them a call to clarify, but I do know for a fact they deliver the cube for packing and drop it off to our house for unloading.
