I think the OP brings up whats been stated before. There are two halves to US gun culture and one half is continuing to ravage inner cities even while crime rates for the nation fall.

The best way to stop it is to really clamp down on gun offensives. You almost need to get an entire generation off the streets.

It could. it just does not need to. I have no need to discuss or prove anything regarding guns here at VJ. I prefer legislative lobbying, recall elections, court decisions. Y'know...the AMERICAN way. I will let you guys discuss surrendering your rights. You do no tneed to use them, you can choose to call someone else with a gun when you need it.

I can't believe you are foolish enough to fall for the NRA #######. You don't seem to know that the NRA is not for "gun lovers," but an organization funded by gun manufacturers. They want people to buy more guns because it makes them more money. They package some freedom loving spiel to dupe people into supporting them. What they really want is money.

You are a fountain of information on the subject Harpa. I have been a voting member of the NRA for 40 years and this is the first I heard this discription. I have voted in every BoD election since 1973, and never heard this. Amazing!

If it were true it would be fine with me, I need little provocation to buy firearms. And I am in favor of capitalism and business in general. Century International Arms in Georgia, VT is running 3 shifts to keep up with demand the the "American Kalashnikov" It is good for our economy. Remington, S&W and Ruger's stocks are soaring. Why is it bad for gun manufacturers to promote buying their products but it is not bad for, say, Apple to come out with a new I-phone every 6 months? Is the Consumer Electronics Assn just about selling products? This nonsense is 2 clicks higher than the "my ####### is big enough I do not need a gun" nonsense. I will give you that.

This is why I choose not to discuss this topic. For one, it is a right and it will not be "talked away". Second, the opposition is so full of uninformed boobs that it is impossible to have an actual discussion. Most of the idiots immediately go to the size of various body organs they claim to possess, or ask why we cannot have concealed thermo-nuclear weapons. Some attempt to act like they know something and say things like "sear failure" or talk about how their friends can make unregistered machine guns from scrap metal and a file and some instructions they bought out of "Popular Mechanics"..only, well, not really. Some of these idiots carry concealed ,32 auto handguns for "protection from bears." Yeah, it was actually stated as the reason an anti-gun person has a concealed carry permit. Faced with a bear, they plan to shoot their companions in the knee and run! Some make their own guns...well, not really.They will, but they need to order the parts. From "Popular Mechanics" maybe? They know nothing about guns except what some op-ed feeds them. They don't even know whatthe current gun laws ARE...they just know we need MORE of them!

They have no idea how to answer a Canadian on how our system works, what our rights are as Americans, or WHY it is this way. "So we do not have a photo of a QUEEN 3000 miles away on our money" may be understandable...not sure though.

Why would I even bother with such nonsense? No need. We will take care of the subject with legislation and litigation. Works for me. Don't care if it pleases anyone else.

I think every classroom should be armed with a bazooka and trained mercenary personnel.

Schools would be protected, gun lovers can keep their guns, and our children can become less educated because they will be too focused on the gun totters in school.
