Well, I just called the Department of State a few days ago. As always, they could not give me any information. He said that they do not need anymore documents, and that it is still processing. I was so hopeless. I asked him what is the longest case he has ever seen, and he told me I didn't want to go there. :( I know that was kind of a stupid question, as I know some never come out of AP. My fiancé has been in AP since August of 2012. I know that because of where my fiancé is from they have to do additional checks, but he worked with high ranking members of the Army. He of course had to go through continuous background checks just to be able to do that. I just wish I knew what exactly is holding up our case. I assume if it was because of lack of proof of our relationship, they would have already contacted us asking for more proof. Anyways, this is more or less just a vent post. I haven't seen my fiancé in almost 3 years. I just hope he is here with me soon. Is anyone else in a similar situation of being in AP for over a year? With no RFE's

I feel for you that are not be able to see your fiancé almost 3 years. I know more by evidence that being in military they do a lot check backgrounds (my fiancé is in the US military as well and had him to do security clearance).

The fact is, your fiancé worked for Afghanistan Army high members ranking probably the main suspect why they put him on AP since the country is scrutinized for heaven of terrorism activities. But again, this is only my 2 cents and am probably wrong. Hope you will see your fiancé anytime soon. Good luck!

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that he was working for the United States Army, not the Afghan Army. smile.png That is how we met. We were working together. Thanks, for your reply. smile.png

So is he the beneficiary, an Afghan who worked for US Army before? Big apologized!

Be assured; you are not alone! I'm non-Afghan US CItizen who married Afghan in Kabul in 2010. We applied for I-130 on Feb. 14, 2011. He also had his interview in Aug 2012. We are still waiting in AP. For better or worse, I at least have been able to live here in Kabul with my husband. (Actually, I felt that if I didn't stay here, the embassy would claim that we don't have a bonafide marriage.)

Good news! A friend who is a security guard at US Embassy, says that in the last couple weeks 50+ visas per day have been issued. I've heard from people under both the Diversity & SIV programs that have received their visas. While it's great to hear that things are moving, as I told my husband, there is a HUGE backlog of applicants. When the embassy stopped posting the list of pending visas (ie. in Administrative Processing) in March 2013, there were already 1,200+ case numbers on the list (This number doesn't reflect that many are families with multiple persons to be investigated.) Keep hope alive!

Thank you so much Suzy for your message. I also have a 7 year old daughter, so moving to Kabul is not something that I can do, but I do plan to visit next summer if our visa has not been issued yet. I always have hope, but you know some days I feel so down. You are right though, for better or for worse. <3

Hello All,

Hopefully your husband gets his visa soon. The process of AP is such a difficult time. Our case has also been in AP since our interview. its been almost 13 months in AP. No RFEs. Everything from our side was complete no missing documents, but still we have been in AP.

"After 8 months in AP our visa status was finally changed to ISSUED! My fiance's visa will be ready this week! I almost had a heart attack. I called my fiance' right away crying. I really thought I was dreaming:) I want to say thank you to visajourney.com and all of its members. I could not have done this without the resources and feedback that you all provided. Good luck to everyone on their visa journey. <3

I am confused. I thought your fiance got visa already?

Hey Meera,

I thought I had written a follow-up message to that, but I guess not. Yes, on the website it said issued, and the Embassy even called him to come pick up the visa. As he arrived they said they couldn't find his visa, and had him sit for over 3 hours. After waiting 3 hours they told him that there must have been some mistake, because his visa is not ready. They said to give them a couple of more weeks, and as you can see it is nearly 6 months later. After many phone calls and emails I find out that there was a glitch in the system, and was showing visa's as issued when they were not. He had already began packing, withdrew money to get his plane ticket right after he got his visa. So, we were pretty devastated. Next time I will not be able to breathe easy until he is in my arms.

Danielle,

If you have the means, you might try meeting in Turkey for a visit at least. Istanbul is a great place to visit and certainly a place you could bring your daughter without any worries. My husband has found getting a visa through the Turkish Embassy in Kabul to be quite easy. As an American, you can get a Turkish 6-month multiple entry visa online for $20. We're considering meeting some of my family members there if the visa doesn't arrive by winter holidays.

Best wishes,

Suzy
