My fiancé submitted to have the expiration for his passport extended. The problem is that he will not receive the passport for another 8 weeks and can not have a medical exam without his passport. How can I request an extension of the petition. It expires on 11/4.

  • 2 months later...

Hey,

We are in the K1 process originally filed in late September and received approved NOA2 Hardcopy in the 2nd week of November and no further update since.

I know the process takes time but were are trying to estimate waiting time.

How long after receiving NOA2 approval was your application shipped to the NVC?

I believe that's the next step right? NVC then application is sent to T&T US Embassy, we schedule choose interview date & schedule medical appointment?

Thanks a lot

Hello,

it took about two days for nvc to send the petition to the embassy. About a week later my fiancé received packet 3. The process can get a little confusing in Trinidad so allow me to give you some tips. When your fiancé receives packet 3 be sure he completes the ds160 and pays the visa immigrant fee ($240). When you pay the fee (at scotia bank) he will receive a confirmation number. After he has all the required documentation send it into the embassy.

The embassy will send your fiancé a letter with the appointment date. My fiancé received his appointment letter about two weeks after submitting packet three. When you receive the appointment letter schedule the medical exam. Dr. Pooran will not see your fiancé unless there is an appointment letter. The exam is roughly 100 US dollars and does not include any additional immunizations that may be needed.

Be sure as the petitioner to send in original I-864 (affidavit of support) . Original signatures are required. You can send you fiancé copies of you w-9 and tax returns.

Our process took a long time but I attribute it to the confusion of it all. I predict that the whole process from the embassy receiving the petition to the interview should take way less than two months especially if you have the funds on hand to complete everything.

And lastly if you have any questions email the embassy. They respond in 48 hours and were very helpful.

Good luck to you!!

Hi, thank you so much for your guidance, we really appreciate it!.

I sent you a message earlier today, it slipped me to check on here where I messaged before.

We're just wondering approximately how far apart is the appointment date they give you about a month after you submit your documents?

Sigh we are really hoping to be together in February, we have been enduring.

Best of luck to you as well in your process.
