ok, I had to call the national ASC number and the bloke there told me everything should be fine TOMORROW, even if a govt. shutdown occurs. Beyond tomorrow, I don't really know...

Thank you! Though I will be surprised if this will actually be what happens.

When the US government shuts down, essentially there will be no money available for that day of work. We'll see how it plays out.

Consular Services are fee-based, so I don't see the IV Units shutting down at all. Might be some issues with mail-room staff, but I doubt it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I follow the US Dept of State Consular Affairs page on Facebook, and they posted an article assuring that visas and passports will continue to be issued in the event of a government shutdown.

Check it the article link here: http://www.state.gov/m/rls/2013/214880.htm

I didn't read through it all honestly (there's a lot there!), but I hope it helps some people who are in the process!

I know there is a lot of general discussion about this, but any idea of how this will affect those of us doing all of the processing through consulates? I contacted the Seoul Embassy and they just said that as of now, everything is running normally and that there will be an announcement if that changes. Any other thoughts? Our interview is scheduled 3 weeks from now... :/

Depends. If Obama gets a hair up his butt, like he did last time, he will start closing those offices that will cause the most pain first, so that he can blame it all on the Republicans. It worked for Clinton, and he was able to say, "Look, I balances the budget!" while Gingrich and the Republicans looked like evil incarnate.

That's very true.

Check out this website I just found. It looks like both the USCIS and the NVC/embassies will be running. Look at the section on travel:

We just got our NOA2 today a couple of hours ago! Talk about crazy weird but good but normal timing. Praying this shutdown doesn't affect the following steps. I know there has been a lot of back and forth betwen what is open and what is not. Looks like hopefully it won't affect any of us, but here's to no delays whatsoever!

FIANCE (K1) VISA

[2013-08-02] I-129F Petition Mailed

[2014-01-30] Interview Date - APPROVE
