Tokyo Process- better than K1 or K3 from US?

Hi:

I recently got engaged to a woman in Japan, we had met online and I went to visit her during the Thanksgiving holiday. We hit it off, and starting talking about the future and all that- well got engaged.

I'm 39, and she is 34. We both want to be together ASAP but want to know the best process. Should we use an attorney?

Also what is the time delay/frame? We are either going to get married here when she visits in February or in Japan- depending on which is best.

Consider DCF in Japan, the process is much quicker, and the resident requirement in Japan is very short. You would file the I-130 at the Embassy in Tokyo. Consider marriage in Japan.

Yes, definitely look into going through the Embassy in Tokyo. We did everything literally in 1 day. And my wife got her visa in about two months after that. This was several years ago, so maybe things have changed since then.

Hi,

So what is the residency requirement? I think I might have misunderstood the advice or formum answers.

I spoke with several attorneys and they said- it wasn't possible to file directly in Japan unless I was living there?

The file would be sent to California regardless?

My wife to be- lives in Tokyo and we want her to move here (Oakland).
