Is a verbal affirmation of having chicken pox still accepted at the medical in Canada? I had them on my first birthday, so my I was never vaccinated against them due to presumed immunity after that point. I am just trying to get caught up on all my shots before I get to the medical stage.

Secondly, my original hard-copy of my immunization record was lost, so I requested a new one from the local health unit that tracked my immunizations until I was 18. They e-mailed me a copy to print out; is this ok to bring to a medical to document my shots or should I ask them to print one out?

Thank you!

Verbal affirmation is not enough. Your doctor can give you a requisition for a blood test to confirm resistancy to chicken pox. This way you can just bring the results to the medical and won't be required to have the varicella vaccination.

If the copy that you will print out is the same as what they would send you then it should be fine.

Verbal affirmation isn't enough? I assumed it was..I have all my vaccinations & didn't know I would have to go get a blood test! Is this at ALL of them in Canada? I will be most likely going to medisys & thought I had read people saying they confirmed verbally without having a test..but maybe I am wrong.

I went to a walk in clinic in Vancouver and requested a blood test. My mother didn't keep records in the 60s so I just asked for evidence of vaccination or past infection for measles, mumps, rubella, and chicken pox. I did not have to pay for the test and now I have the results for my own records. I recently got a DPT booster and I did not have to pay for that vaccine.

I recently had the DPT booster as well which was covered under OHIP. Local clinic charges $50 for a titre test so I would prefer to avoid that. For some reason I never got a second MMR shot according to the vaccination records they have in file, so I just need to pop into the clinic to get that done quickly.

Dr seiden no longer does immigration medicals. You may want to check with another doctor on their prerequisites.

Also many doctors will simply order the blood tests for you, that's what I had done.
