My wife was in the collection that had her interview on September 11. Approved, all is well. Have been using this board as a resource for months, have been good enough with search and google-fu that we haven't had to post any questions (thanks for the great information, everyone).

But, on the last step, my first question: she is currently in Montreal. Her flight is for wednesday. Montreal is peculiar (in my experience as an American) compared to other airports in that we go through US Customs at Montreal, instead of when we arrive in America. Conversely, when I'm traveling to Canada, I go through Canadian customs at Montreal, instead of at, say, JFK.

The question is, does this apply to her Immigration POE as well? The interviewer did warn her to arrive at the airport three hours early, which I took to mean that she would be presenting her passport, visa, and visa packet at the US Customs and Immigration office in YUL, thus requiring her to be there extra early to make her flight. to me, that also means that when she lands in New Orleans, she is scott free to run to baggage, just as if she was entering America as a tourist, as we've done many times before.

Thanks for the help, and your experiences. I am going to ask her two write a review to me of her interview day, so I can provide it here for the next round of newbies.

Yep, she wil go through USA immigration in Montreal..all her visa processing will be down in MTL....Once she gets on the plane, thats it, nothing else to do in the USA, except pick up her luggage.

Majority of flights from Canada to the USA--one pre-clears in Canada, only a few that 1 doesn't--such as Saskatoon. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
