Some people in open carry states did open carry.. Made some people nervous.. That is understandable.I agree that open carry was not the smartest thing to do, Even in deer season here you never see a firearm in a eating establishment even at 4 am opening day.

Open carry is retarded.

The benefit of allowing people to carry handguns is multiplied by NOT knowing who is doing so.

Vermont allows open carry in addition to concealed carry. It is very rare to see anyone carrying a handgun openly, though no one would be particularly alarmed by it. I have seen it, I have never seen anyone that gives a ####### about it, but it is not very clever.

American gun use is out of control. Shouldn't the world intervene?

I look forward to the World Police showing up in Chicago for the Thanksgiving Smackdown/shootout.

Unarmed UN personal will knock on your door demanding that we turn in our guns. Think of the German UN soldier knocking on the door of a man who fought on the beaches of Normandy .... What do you think he will get when he demands that ex marine turn in his weapon.

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

I concur with that and have said it many times here. I support the right, but think to do it is more about making a statement, than security.Open carry is a poorly thought out tactical decision.

It draws unwanted attention, it alerts the bad guys as to who is armed making you a target,

Surprise is the mother of all tactical advantages USE IT

I always see those open carry guys as ego boosters and trigger happy..They make me nervous.

Well at least if the shat goes down the bad guys will be tied up killing them first, which might give me a chance

I'm very disappointed to see that this was published by the Guardian. Even as a liberal, I could not take this seriously.

Also, the Starbucks decision was a weak one. They are merely asking people politely not to bring in guns. If someone does so anyways nothing will happen. Employees are being instructed not to ask the patron to remove the gun or leave the property.

(The observations regarding being "obsessed" about second-hand smoke are kind of interesting, though.)

It was just smart move from business perspective not to alienate either side.

Guns scare the hell out of me.

If I were to see someone with a gun carried non-concealed, or I were to know someone had a concealed gun, I'd be likely to do whatever they told me to, so that they wouldn't shoot me. The fact is, such a person needs only a second to snap mentally and start shooting whoever he wants. That scares the ####### out of me.

I had a friend who started collecting guns, and even took me to a shooting range. The problem was, at his house, he'd always have a gun lying around, be cleaning a gun, be touching a gun, and I was very intimidated by him and didn't want to argue against anything he said... I don't see this friend anymore.

I don't have a gun. If someone does have a gun, and I know that they have it, it gives them the ability to easily kill me. That scares me.

What would Xenu do?

You don’t like one you don’t have to own one but that should not be the reason why others should not be able to own one.

It's a good thing nobody's trying to stop everyone from owning one then.

I didn't say others shouldn't be able to own one. I'm just pointing out that those who are carrying guns can very easily intimidate those who aren't, even without brandishing their gun.
