Quick (and probably stupid) question. I've gotten everything all prepared for my wife, but reading another post made me question whether I need the DS-156K.

I know we do not need the DS-157 in Colombia (only required for males between 18 and 45), but do we need the DS-156K? Reading the form, it appears to be only for fiances. But then again, most of the "K"-related forms (like the I-129F) seems to be centered on fiances (as opposed to a married couple).

I can't find anything in my paperwork or from the Bogota embassy web site that indicates the DS-156K is necessary, but I want to make sure I am not missing something.

9/15/06 - Married in Bogota by notary

10/7/06 - Wedding Blessing and reception in Bogota

12/06/06 - Called NVC and got case number; told that petition had been forwarded to embassy in Bogota!

12/11/06 - DHL delivered petition to embassy.

12/13/06 - Adriana faxes "packet 3" information to embassy.

12/15/06 - We send "packet 3" information to embassy via courier.

12/22/06 - Return from honeymoon to find both packet 3 and 4 at my wife´s home in Bogota.

1/19/07 - Embassy interview - APPROVED! (Visa received on 1/22/07)

1/26/07 - Adriana and daughter to arrive in Miami

I-485 and I-797:

2/12/07 - AOS and EAD sent to Chicago lockbox

5/7/07 - Employment Authorization card received

8/28/07 - Re-scheduled (from 6/28) AOS interview in Orlando - AOS approved.

9/13/07 - Wife and step-daughter receive green cards

I-751:

6/1/09 - I-751 mailed

11/18/09 - Removal of Conditions approved

Citizenship:

10/26/10 - Citizenship interview (successful)

10/29/10 - Citizenship ceremony and oath

I don't think the DS-156K is not always required , varies by consulate, so I think it would be correct to assume if your embassy wanted it, they have would have either included it or made reference to it in your packet 3. :)

Thanks. Unfortunately, I do not have the packet 4. So that is why I trying to determine if ANYONE who has gone through the K-3 process has had to provide the DS-156K. If you read the affadavit at the bottom of the form, it refers to the intention to marry a U.S. citizen which, of course, is moot for someone appying for a K-3. Hence my question.

My packet 3 from Motreal specifically asked for the DS-156k, but as CutienPurg mentioned the requirements of the different consulates vary so it may not be a requirement for you. But then again, it's a pretty basic form to fill out and have on hand just in case it's needed.

Form DS-156k is a NONIMMIGRANT FIANCÉ(E) VISA APPLICATION and wouldn't be required with a K-3....... the DS-156 is a NONIMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION it is required.

Montreal did not include the DS 156K in the list of required forms for our K-3 :)

good luck,

my wife interviewed at the consulate in Chennai India, for a k3 visa. She did not need the ds156K, just the DS156 whcih we filled out online.
