Hi, I'm a U.S Citizen and i got married to my husband in Pakistan. We got married in April 13, 2013 and I return to U.S in May and applied for him immediately. Following next week, I got a letter from USCIS stating that they had received application and they are reviewing it. However, i check my status on there website everyday. It's on Initial Review and its past 4 months now. Anyone know how long this initial review process takes? Its very frustrating to wait this long. Yes, my case was sent to Arizona office however, I live in California. Anyone has any suggests? That can help?

Bit of advice, stop checking the online status each day as you will only become frustrated and completely disapointed. My mother always said that "a watched kettle never boils".

The length is not meassured in days but rather months and quarters of the year and years.

Good luck to you.

The web site isn't updated as much as you would like but at 4 months you have a long wait ahead. You should also prepare yourself for the prospect of him being put in A P which can take a long time. This doesn't always happen but in many cases from Pakistan we see it a lot.

AP stands for Administrative Processing. AP is a status assigned once you attend the interview at the embassy and the embassy does not approve or deny the visa immediately.

Some countries or particular cases are flagged for AP even if every thing seems ok with the petition from the Embassy's point of view.

AP can take as little as a couple of days or weeks or at worst a couple of years.

Hey Terry thanks for the explanations. But, i had seen couple cases where the girls are US citizen and they applied for there Fiancees who were from pakistan as well on Fiancee visa. They reached here in 12 months. Some Indians girls applied there husbands on spouse visa and they came here within 5 months. So isn't spouse should take shorter amount time then the fiancee visa? Any suggestions on that.

Hey there,

It doesnt matter now whether you apply for a fiance visa or spouse... MOST cases are sent to AP... My husband was one of them as well.

I am also a citizen... Our entire process (excluding the AP) took about a year or a bit more...

Good Luck

Mysterious are our ways, says USCIS

Sorry for the off-topic but i just had to LOL here. Good one.

I'm the beneficiary.

Don't have a timeline? Don't know how to get started with it? Do it for the statistics sake: VJ video guide

Want to know what's happening with your case? Here's the USCIS tracking page (get an account and see if the case's been 'touched'!). Don't get your hopes up though, some cases never even appear there despite being successfully processed.

What is the actual time frame from NOA 1 to NOA 2? How long does it take?!

There are factors that affect the time so there is no exact time. We see cases here that take from about 5 to 7 months but it could be more and we see a few that are much less. Keep in mind USCIS is working on about 2.5 million cases.

USCIS is a complete mystery and currently in utter chaos. Our case was accepted in just 2 months. Other people I have seen that filed one or two days after us have not even received their NOA2 yet.

It's very unusual.

Wow thats horrible how some people's case is accepted in few months and others have to wait for several months which is fairly not fair! The wait is just ridiculous they need to come up with some kinda system to make this process little faster. Because, its awfully slow as of now!

Thanks everyone for there feedback I appreciate it!
