I am trying to find a good sample to use for my friends and family. We have our interview next week and they are requesting 3 affidavits from friends/family about our relationship. I looked at the one in the samples and it doesnt seem to be the easiest or best. Is that the only option? Cant they just write a letter and have it notorized stating the validity of our relationship and marriage?

Most people don't bother with affadavits. If you really want them I recommend free form- make sure the person's full name, address and phone number is on the top and then let them write 2-3 paraghraghs (no more than one page) about how they met the two of you and why they think you are a great couple.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Thank you for the response. The letter for our interview states we are required to bring 3 of them. I dont want to risk any issue by ignoring that request on the letter for our interview next week.

Can you quote that part of the letter? I suspect it is one of many things they list as possible proofs, not required.

Our interview letter did not state affidavits were required, so I am curious as to what your letter says.

Most likely it says "Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by friends or family members having personal knowledge of the bona fides of your marriage relationship (Each affidavit must contain the full name and address, date and place of birth of the person making the affidavit; his or her relationship, if any, to the petitioner or beneficiary ; and complete information and details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge of the relationship . "

I had similar request on a G-56 I got for our 2nd interview. I was initially using templates found online but an immigration attorney advised me of following :

1) Don't use templates. Have the person make it more personal. On top say "I swear or affirm" , then their required info and then write a letter , tell a story like how long they've known you ,how they know of your marriage ,how much they wish you well etc . Attorney even commented jokingly that "right now they are tearing these up" referring to my affidavits I brought him that were all template format.

2) Affidavits of course carry more weight if from USC or LPR so attach copy of passport ,greencard or birth certificate .

3) When I asked attorney how many should I bring he said how many can you get

4) Notarize.

NOTE: There's conflicting opinions on whether they should be notarized and even my notice doesn't say it but if you look at the USCIS website definition of "affidavit" (home>resources>glossary) it says ..

Affidavit A document in which a person states facts, swearing that the facts are true and accurate. The person (the affiant) must include their full printed name and address, date and place of birth, relationship to the parties, if any, and complete details concerning how the affiant acquired knowledge of the events. The affiant should sign the affidavit under oath and the signature should be witnessed by an official, such as a notary public.
