  1. 1. What will happen to Kansan kids who learn about evolution as the unifying theory of biology?

    • They will become tools of the dark lord.
    • They will be able to compete with people from other countries at the university level. What a nightmare.
    • They will vote Democrat which is not as bad as becoming a tool of the dark lord but is pretty durn bad anyways.

No, actually your first problem is not having clarity on the incident you cited.

If you check you will see it was scientists challenging his ideas more than anyone.

Doesn't change the fact he was indeed put in jail for it.

Who cares who challenged "an idea". Not an act, an idea.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

I never said he was put in jail over an idea, I pointed to who opposed his idea, in fact the church investigated his claim, he got in trouble with the church for spiritual matters. Anyway it was house arrest in case you are really interested in facts.

They will become landscapers and housekeepers wearing crosses and rosary beads working for my children educated in Business, math, physics and English. They will not be competition in the job market for those of us that educated our children and made it a priority.

Sounds like a good deal for my family.

maybe you should prove your statements before you expect someone to prove you wrong.

um how does that (nice sources btw dry.png ) prove this:

Oddly enough, kids who go to private schools or are home schooled where Evolution and Global warming are not taught as fact do much better in science and

seem to have more colleges interesting in having them attend..... imagine that.

The sources listed for this "fact chart" are christian blogs and pro-homeschooling sites. That's not vetted information.

It's like I start my own christian homeschooling blog and I say "Homeschoolers all earn doctorates when they are 3 years old" and then a pro-homeschooling book or poster company or whatever this is cites my blog as a fact.

Also, that does not say that they "do better in science" (it actually says the opposite, science was one of the lower scores) and it does not say that "colleges want them more."

Also it says "Golly."

And, generally real vetted scientific information is not a colorful and glossy poster.

Home Schoolers Lead Spelling Bee
L A P O R T E, Ind., May 29
Mindy Cosaert, 11, is a spelling whiz.

Word by word, letter by letter, her skill has won her a spot as one of the 248 finalists competing in this week's three-day-long Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

"I study a lot," Mindy explains. "I study, like, two hours [a day]." And she's drawn a lot of attention because, together with her brother and two sisters, she is taught at home.

"Education is just the whole day, a way of life," says her mother, Carol Cosaert. "It's not just a few hours in the day."

Unlike public school students with their strict schedule of subjects, Mindy can dwell as much as she wants on spelling.

Home Schooled Finalists Gaining in Numbers

Home-schooled children began showing up at the spelling bee a decade ago. And their numbers have steadily increased.

Even though students taught at homes make up just 2 percent of the entire school age population, they are more than 10 percent of the finalists in this year's national spelling bee. They will make up an even higher percentage at National Geographic Society's National Geographic Bee.

"I think there's a certain sense of astonishment," says Paige Kimble, the director of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee. "And frankly I think there's also a sense of respect and jealousy."

I was neither homeschooled nor have I ever homeschooled a kid but most people who read, know the basic facts on homeschoolers performance.

BUt maybe US AND WORLD NEW REPORTS are just giving cover to sub-par students.

Home-Schooled Teens Ripe for College

Myths about unsocialized home-schoolers are false, and most are well prepped for college, experts say.

Home-schooled teens outperform their peers in college, studies suggest.

Between deciphering college financial aid awards and settling into a shoe-box sized dorm room with a perfect stranger or two, making the move from high school to college can be a shock to the system for even the most put-together teenager.

The transition, many may assume, would be even more jarring for students coming from a home-schooled environment.

But parents and students from the home-schooling community say the nontraditional method yields teens that are more independent and therefore better prepared for college life.

More than 2 million U.S. students in grades K-12 were home-schooled in 2010, accounting for nearly 4 percent of all school-aged children, according to the National Home Education Research Institute. Studies suggest that those who go on to college will outperform their peers.

Students coming from a home school graduated college at a higher rate than their peers—66.7 percent compared to 57.5 percent—and earned higher grade point averages along the way, according to a study that compared students at one doctoral university from 2004-2009.

They're also better socialized than most high school students, says Joe Kelly, an author and parenting expert who home-schooled his twin daughters.

"I know that sounds counterintuitive because they're not around dozens or hundreds of other kids every day, but I would argue that's why they're better socialized," Kelly says. "Many home-schoolers play on athletic teams, but they're also interactive with students of different ages."

Home-schooled students often spend less time in class, Kelly says, giving them more opportunity to get out into the world and engage with adults and teens alike.

Home schooled from the age of 3, the 18-year-old San Diego native played baseball for two years in high school, started a flag football league, is a "big fan" of swing dancing, and is an active street performer.

[Get three tips to engage your teen in summer learning.]

"I had a lot of time to pursue outside interests … to really zone in on things," Orlowski says. "If I wanted to make something happen I usually could, with a little wiggle room."

Extracurricular activities were not the only opportunities Orlowski seized. The flexibility of home schooling allowed him to focus on his passions: math and science.

As a junior, Orlowski convinced a physics professor at San Diego State University to let him sit in on an upper-level electrodynamics class. He later helped that professor with research projects.

"I can go out and say, 'OK, what class do I want to take, from what professor, at what college in San Diego?' and then I just go out and try and contact them," he says. "Most people would be skeptical at first and then I'd meet with them and they'd say, 'Alright, let's give this a try.'"

Orlowski enlisted the help ofadmissions counselor and author Marjorie Hansen Shaevitz, who previously worked in the office of the dean of students at Stanford University, to help craft his home-schooling experience into a high school transcript.

[Ask these questions at freshman orientation.]

Home-schooled students often choose academic and social pursuits because they find them important and meaningful, and college admissions officers are drawn to that authenticity, Shaevitz says.

"They have to take account of time … that other students have structured," she says. "The possibilities of showing all the kinds of things that colleges are looking for—curiosity, confidence, resourcefulness, ability to deal with challenges—you name it. That's a part of being a home-schooled student."

Rather than a hindrance, home-schooling was an asset, Orlowski says, one that landed him acceptance into 10 top-tier schools, includingPrinceton University, Vanderbilt University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Orlowski will attend MIT in the fall and plans a double major in math and physics. His advice to other home-schooled teens:

"The flexibility that home-schooling gives you, you can leverage that into getting all sorts of opportunities," he says. "Seize the day by using home-schooling as a springboard to college admissions."

Good for you, that's a bit better. But do you realize that you quote are people's opinions and not facts? Those are people stating what they feel, for the most part, like that being homeschooled is an asset. That is an opinion.

In red you have one study, good. That is people who went to one school. Something, sure, but not a long-term national percentage. That also does not prove that homeschool is what made them graduate at a slightly higher rate.

ABC news is not, in fact, a source on the shiny poster you posted. They list their sources on the bottom and what you later posted is not there.

Forgive me for not investing large amount of time to mine data which people will disregard anyway,,,, but as it is, I brought more to the table than anyone else, can we agree on that?
