Registered marriage in Philippines or In USA

Hi fellow Vjers! I am married to an american here in the Philippines. We are still waiting for NOA2. My question is, Since we are married here in our country, it means it is legal and registered. How about in the USA? Is his status there married also? In what way can he make his status changed from single to married? Any information is appreciated!

USCIS STAGE:

04-05-13- Mailed CR1 petition to USCIS
04-08-13- NOA 1 ( NBC)

04-17-13- Form I-797 received thru mail (official receipt)
11-18-13- transferred to Texas Service Center
12-12-13- NOA2 (at last!), no RFE smile.png

NVC STAGE:

01-06-14- shipped to NVC

01-13-14- NVC received

02-12-14- Case number, IIN & Beneficiary ID available through phonecall

02-24-14- DS-261 available and completed

02-26-14- Received email from NVC to pay AOS bill

02-27-14- paid AOS bill, in process

03-03-14- AOS bill appear as paid

03-15-14- Received email from NVC to pay IV bill; Mailed AOS packet

03-18-14- NVC received AOS packet, under review

03-27-14- paid IV fee, in process

Thanks..i am aware getting married is legal. What i mean is here in our country it is being registered and there is an office (national Statistics office) to have a record of your marriage. Whenever you searched for that your status can't be single anymore but married. Is it the same in USA? Or do we need to register it when i reached there in the future?

There is no such national marriage registry in the United States. Marriages in the U.S. are handled at the state level, and the states only keep records of marriages within their state. You don't need to register your marriage anywhere. As Boggy1974 said, you just provide your marriage certificate as proof of marriage.

You don't need to register your marriage in the U.S. if anyone needs to see your see your marriage certificate, just show them your NSO marriage certificate.

I think OP is concerned that her husband's status in the US is still single because the State doesn't have any record of him getting married (since they got married abroad).

Hi Apple! Well, you have a point also there because here in the Philippines, it is just fair that my status is changed. How come in USA it is not the same?

Also, marriage is a 'states-rights' thing, so the states keep track of this stuff.

The ONLY federal-level 'noticing' that occurs :

1. when a USCitizen files a petition to chase after a spousal visa and

2. IRS Tax Filing .

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

What do you mean darnell? So when my husband filed a tax and include me as the spouse and when we file a spousal visa, then thats the way the state has a hold of his status? Did i understand it right? Thanks!!
