Handwritten birth certificate

Hi everyone,

I've tried searching for the answer for over a week now, but haven't found a definite yes or no.

My mom is our co-sponsor for the I-134 (K1 visa NOA2 received... in the interview planning waiting game right now). She was born in 1958 and her birth certificate is handwritten. It has her name, date of birth, parent's names, signature of recorder, and lists which county she was born in.

Should I have her try to track down a more "modern" birth certificate that isn't handwritten? Or will this one be ok? Also... would a copy be alright? Or should I mail her original over to my fiancé for the interview?

Obviously I would rather be safe than sorry, but if I can get a quick yes or no here ,that would be great!

My birth certificate is from twenty years later and handwritten, and I had no issues presenting it to USCIS or the Social Security Administration.

But do you thing a copy is sufficient? Because on the original there is a "seal" that cannot be seen in the copy. I would almost rather send the original to France for the interview and ask if they can keep a copy if they need a copy.

Provided that it's an original certified copy issued by the appropriate civil authority in France then there should not be an issue.

"For persons born in France, 'Extraits de Naissance' are obtainable from la Mairie (Office of the Mayor) at the place of birth.

For French nationals born in a foreign country, they are available from the Ministere des Affaires Etrangeres, Service de l'Etat Civil, 20 Allee Brancas, 44 - Nantes.

For French nationals born in a French colony, they may be obtained from the Direction des Archives de France, Section Outre-Mer, 5 Bd. Barthou, BP 1056, 44035 Cedex Nantes"

You would obviously need to have it translated into English, or could do it yourself if you are fluent in both English and French.

Sorry for the confusion. The birth certificate is my mom's, who is a US citizen. She is the co/joint-sponsor for our I-134 affidavit of support..

My bad then, I assumed she was French from your flag being France.

Again, provided it's an original certified copy issued by a US city, county, or state, then there should not be a problem.
