Hi all,

I have recently applied for removing of conditions, and already received a NOA and had my biometrics done. My husband and I are planning to be abroad for a couple of months, and I am undecided if I should have my mail forwarded or I should have it held at the post office. So my question is, on the envelope you receive from USCIS, does it say anything like "do not forward" or anything like that? Because if they do I just want to make sure I have all the mail held so that the green card does not get sent back.. So please let me know, anyone, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Usually mail from the USCIS is NOT forwarded. Can you get your mail collected by someone else?

Regardless of whether or not it will forward - I wouldn't do it. Why risk putting your important stuff through international mail? Better to get a BIG PO box and have a friend check it once every (fill in the blank here). Leave instructions that if anything from XYZ shows up, to open it and see what it is and tell you, scan it, fax it, whatever. That's what I would do anyway.

Cheers!

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Thanks for replying...

My husband and I are only in this town for graduate school, his parents live back on the East Coast.. We were going to have the mail forwarded to them, since we also don't trust international mail, but I guess if they do say "do not forward" on the envelope that'd be useless.. I guess we'd better have the mail held then. Thanks again.

We got our NOA-2 today. I notice it is stamped (as part of the postage meter stamp from the looks of it), "Return Service Requested". You might want to do some research to see if that, in this case, mail is forwardable or not. It didn't say "DO NOT FORWARD" like some things do, but "Return Service Requested" may IMPLY do not forward. Be sure to check it out.

Cheers!

Oh yeah - you are technically living at a different address (or will be) than the one you have USCIS. You're supposed to give them your new address, even if it is temporary. Since you are also supposed to list all your addresses on various forms and so forth - you might want to consider giving them the new address as a physical address, even if not your mailing address.

Cheers!

Thank you! I didn't know we need to give abroad address as well since we're only visiting my parents there, just a really long vacation (a few months)... but now that you mentioned it, I am not quite sure how to notify them of a new physical address? I think I'll call the hotline, so thank you for bringing that up! :)

I really wouldn't bother letting them know. You are not living there, just staying there on your travels. What if you were backpacking for 2 months?!! You haven't moved house or anything which what they always want to know.
