Hi!
How far in advance should I get my police certificate (I have to get two as I have lived abroad recently as well as in the UK). Is it when I get packet three from the embassy or can I do it in advance?

Foreign certificate is good indefinitely as long as you don't return to the country. So now on that one is fine. Depending on the country, it could take awhile. Some countries like Australia require you to submit fingerprints which would be captured only at certain police stations in the UK. Some countries take months.

A UK police certificate is valid for 12 months. I would suggest ordering just before the time you anticipate NOA2 to be approved or latest as soon as you get notified of NOA2.
